Martin and Howland top 2

Kiffin had at least 2 other options besides UT, though. You have to concede something when the coach you're trying to land has that kind of leverage in the negotiations.

Kiffin was a big splash hire. Hamilton screwed up big-time . Look at the Pearl buyout at Auburn. It is going to cost someone a ton of money to get Pearl, Hamilton should have had a similar buyout for Kiffin.

Wow if he leaves I don't think I can take any more bad news. And if he does leave you got what you were calling for you nay sayers

There is an old saying that you get what you pray for so you better be careful what you pray for. I think this saying applies to this coaching situation with many Tennessee fans.

Sometimes we can be stupid!

Dude you're seriously all over CCM's nuts. You truly think he's the best we can do? We've had better before and we can have better again. Get a clue.

Is that what you took from my post?

Are you so eager to argue with me you discount all my other posts?

I clearly stated before that Hart can go 2 ways with this hire, improve or take a step back. My laughing comment was that if you think 19-20 win seasons is the worst Tennessee can do, then you're either very young or have amnesia.

Think as usual UT is a day late and a dollar short and shows us unless they pull out a great hire that we can continue to be disappointed with this athletic department in regards to basketball. Hope Hart has been planning for a scenario and has a list of coaches ready but I really think he thought UT would not put CCM in this position and he could do just what he wanted with no chance of losing him or having to pay big money but it has backfired and he is now going to have to open up the bank for Martin and did not want or expect to have to do so or he will have to open it up for someone else. Instead, we get another good old up and comer.

As far as the last part goes, it's negative on both accounts. My grandfather was an usher at TBA starting in the Houston era, so I spent plenty of time seeing worse than mediocre basketball.

Sorry for this being long but I wanted to do a quick search of coaches that are still in the tourney or were really good. With the way our fan base acts we would've fired these coaches before they had a chance to suceed. Calipari went to the NIT his first two years at Memphis and that's after he had made a name for himself at umass.

Tennessee doesn't have a rich tradition in basketball. So you are left hiring a coach from a small school and very small experience at the big level. The list of candidates get even smaller as the coaches see how our fan base treats our coaches.

I'm not a fan of everything coach Martin does but that's the case with just about every coach in America. It wasn't too long ago that having a winning record was a good year here. Now we are disappointed in being on the bubble and not making the tourney (I'm disappointed also when we don't make it). This coaching staff has proven that they improve players and play their best ball at the end of the year. That is a sign of good coaching. Yes, they have to find a way to start the season off better but you wouldn't have seen the development of Richardson under many other staffs.

I posted all this to say, whoever our coach is next year. We need to support the team and give that staff plenty of time to get his system in and his players on campus to really see what kinda coach they are.

If you think 19 wins is average, then I suggest you check into a mental hospital.

Pretty much, which is why I think he'd be a good gamble. You can probably get him for somewhat of a steal, he's a big enough name to make a splash, and if he's serious about coaching, he'll want to work hard to re-establish his reputation and prove the 3 Final Fours at UCLA are what people should focus on, not the downfall.

Howland wouldn't be my first choice but I would happy with the hire. His credentials are very impressive and would qualify as being a proven winner.

We need to support the team and give that staff plenty of time to get his system in and his players on campus to really see what kinda coach they are.

lots of info there but would be better if there was some additional context to those stats as in how were the respective programs doing the 5-10 years prior to each coaches arrival at each program.

Cuonzo finally made the tourney, and had a nice little run. Now people are crying and worried that he might leave. You know what? Let him leave, he's not a very good x's and o's coach anyway, and next year isn't gonna be very good..
