Marshall staying at Wichita State

It doesn't matter if a coach has the personality of a rock if he wins. In the past his personality may of stopped him from getting bigger jobs, but he wasn't a "name" then. He has certainly proved himself now, and I doubt his personality stops him from getting any jobs in the future.

Maybe prima donna is the word we were seeking? I am gullible, so if I missed the sarcasm, so be it.

Yea, CGM was born in 1963 and Madonna was born in 1958, so he is post-Madonna in that sense.

As far as their popularity, Madonna started her rise to fame in the early 80's with hits like "Like a Virgin" in 1984. CGM didn't get his first head coaching job until 1998. So that confirms he is definitely Post-Madonna. :pilot:

Hate to say it? You're pretty much admitting that you just don't like the guy regardless of how he does his job.

He's a good AD. Anyone else who thinks otherwise simply doesn't have facts and logic behind them...just misplaced emotion.

Hmm. Actually, I was just saying that he deserves credit for digging himself out of the hole that he got himself and UT into by rushing to hire DT last year.

I'd agree that Hart is a good AD. He's gotten us to a much better place financially and has ended up with two great coaches in Jones and Barnes.

Of course, he only backed into those hires after getting turned down publicly by multiple football coaches, and after he hired a guy who is so unethical that he might not ever get a major head coaching job again. That's not me being emotional - these are just facts that I can't ignore.

But if you think that Hart should protected from even mild criticism, that's certainly your right.

Anybody see Seth Greenberg's comment on Finebaum yesterday evening? Said Bama may be willing to pay more money for a BB HC, but UT is a better job for a BB HC because the Vols' fanbase is so much more passionate about BB.

#SethGreenberglovesUT.

Scarbinsky in bham on jox said that the opening at Tennessee would have no bearing on the search at Alabama. Tennessee would be fishing in a pond and Alabama would be fishing in the ocean! Turns out he was right. Tennessee never contacted Marshall and surprise surprise you can catch a big fish in a pond if you are in the right pond and use the right bait! Try the Orange one battle! Screw bama

Gregg Marshall to remain head coach of Wichita State Shockers

With Marshall out of the picture for Alabama, it's looking more and more like UT will somehow pull off the best hire in the conference this offseason. Sure, you could make a case for Howland, but regardless it's pretty amazing considering where we were a few days ago.

Hate to say it, but Hart deserves some credit for this.

Why is it difficult to give Dave Hart props? He is OUR AD isn't he?

They were talking about the "Best coaching combo EVER in the SEC" How bout ye now; bama? . The recent Pub down there may have factored in. I know; glass houses.

Article in the Montgomery Advertiser said that Battle offered $3.3 mil and had $4 mil on the table. Sure says a lot about someone not wanting to live in Tuscaloosa.

Before Marshall broke their heart they were saying here in Alabama that the mighty tide had the ace in the hole, that being Saban, like ANY coach in America would want to work with Saban, what a joke, as it turns out I guess Marshall wasn't so enamored with Saban after all! He turned down more money to stay at WS which you can say what you want about their "basketball tradition" it's still WS. Guess that tells us how the Alabama job is viewed around the country! Who'd want to coach in their storage shed of an arena anyway!

Man, Marshall isn't ever going to leave Wichita State it seems like. I guess he's waiting on a blue blood job to come open. 3 million per year at Wichita State, wow, just wow. So, whose next on the list for Bammer? Any names being thrown out there?

Life is short. $3mil at WS where he has it made for as long as he wants it vs a situation like Bama? Nah. He's smarter than that. If he's successful there, likes it there, and is making that much money, why jump to a place like Bama or UT for that matter? Be secure and be happy.

So Marshall is full of himself because he turned down a job?
Marshall understands the game. WSU is a better job than Bama. He stayed at Withrop a long time and turned down South Carolina for the same reasons. He doesn't see the platform for success
He basically won the interview when UT hired Buzz (A clown who didn't understand the game) but Dickey screwed that up.

He won't leave WSU on a whim. He'll stay until a job comes along that is a platform he feels like he can take the next step from. Until then he'll continue to add to his list of conference titles and tourney appearances.

I'm amazed he actually seriously considered bama--rather strange. The guy could get hired by numerous schools with better programs than bama.

I doubt Kansas is much better. Bama basketball has zero going for it except the money the school will offer the next coach. They've been somewhere between mediocre and bad for a long time.

JMO but I think it's a lot easier to build an elite basketball program than football---especially considering neither Wichita State or VCU have football programs. If you think in those terms if you are Smart or Marshall why would you leave a place where a good majority of the resources go into basketball? I think at places like Texas and Alabama basketball will never be king....it'll be what occurs after football season. I think In the case of Tennessee fans we have proven that we will support basketball---it will never trump football but with the way the fans come out to attend even a season like we just had is remarkable.

I like Smart--would hate to see him leave VCU--but texas may be setting themselves up for a fall. Schools that fire reasonably successful or even successful coaches in the hope of doing better often go backwards first. It happened to us when we fired Devoe, also Wake Forest, Va. Tech, others. Texas has a lot going for it, but getting to, say, the Sweet 16/Elite 8 regularly is hard. Smart will have to deal with high expectations, if he takes that job, even though BB plays second fiddle to the football program.

I think Prohm could land at Alabama with his ties to Alabama while Smart would be a good choice for Texas and if Smart leaves VCU, they might look at Wade of UTC, who was a former assistant at VCU.
