Marquez North to enter draft?

From Swains Twitter...

@swainevent: I'm hearing there's a strong chance Marquez North will forgo his Senior season and enter the NFL draft.

Makes sense IMO. No need in getting injured and sitting out another year in school. Go get that money.

Horrible move. Not sure he evens gets drafted..Very bad move.

This is such a head scratcher?
If how was thinking about this, why not ask for a status like the other three did?
He has very little good video.
He's been constantly injured.
The only thing I can think of is that he really dislikes CZA?

I'm guessing the same thing. Have heard several have threatened to leave if CZA stays there so he probably won't be the last, unfortunately.

He was never elite at UT. Had a one pretty good year and one great game.

For a freshman who had never played wr, he was elite. 3rd best in UT history.

College Football News All-Freshman
Athlon Sports SEC Freshman of the Week (Oct. 20)

Games/Starts: 11/11
Starting receiver as a true freshman; second on team with 38 catches for team-best 496 yards with one TD
His 38 catches are the second-most by a freshman in UT history (behind Kelley Washington 64 in 2001)
His 496 receiving yards are the third-most by a freshman in UT history (behind Washington's 1,010 and Stanley Morgan's 511 in 1973)

Washington and Morgan, he is in pretty good company. Worley and Dobbs were his qbs. He did very well.
Some of his injuries came from taking hits from behind trying to catch overthrown balls by Worley and Dobbs.

I think that he feels he has to try now because he has fought through two injury-riddled seasons here and does not want to risk it again. He will have to have a huge day at UT's pro day. I don't know if he is capable, but I do wish him nothing but the very best.

Think it's more CZA returning than anything. If we had a new WR Coach coming in I doubt he leaves.

There would be no money for North to go and get. If he could, you know, actually play for a season, he might stand a slight chance of getting picked in next year's draft, if he has sufficient speed.

Yeah this is not happening. North is a serious student. He's stated before that he wants to go to law school. He didn't even request for a draft evaluation. This is a classic throw sh## out there for attention.

I knew as soon as I read this post he was gone. D4H wrong again.

He won't get invited to the combine, I don't think, and he has very little recent tape. So he'd have to show out huge as an undrafted free agent--competing against a lot of other free agents with NFL experience. The odds of him--or any undrafted free agent-- making a team are slim. On most teams, maybe one makes a roster annually. If he wants to make an NFL team and make some money, he'd be MUCH better off coming back and playing well next year.

Something's fishy here with no draft evaluation request...maybe grades or a Tiny Richardson type health concern possibly? Wish him luck but I'd be surprised if he was drafted. Wish him the very best if he does go.

He has a few outstanding catches that are eye popping. The health issues are a red flag. You are right. He likely won't be invited to a combine so he will need to show out in a pro day setting. He would definitely do himself more good by showing scouts more on the field against competiton

Well, the best of luck to North if true. I'll always remember that picturesque TD against Georgia.

Thanks for that catch against SC in '13. I jumped off my couch with that one. So happy for that win.

Draft has never been about what you've done, but what you have the potential/upside to do. Best football clearly ahead of him. He'll be drafted

Marquez hand strength must be incredible. His size is good. But speed and constant health issues will concern teams. But it only takes 1 team to be enamored with his gifts to give him a shot. To me he has Andre Johnsons frame with Michael Crabtree like hands. Tight end speed instead of wide out speed. Too bad Al Davis isnt alive or Marquez might go #1 overall. Lol

He will be on an NFL team next year. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a 5th or 6th round pick based on potential.

Based on what? Definitely not anything that he showed on the field. He may get on with a team and be camp fodder, but I doubt he does much more than that.

A friend just told me that he's hearing from Hyams that there is speculation that North sat out last season to ensure he stayed healthy. I know he practiced a lot of weeks where he didn't play very much if at all.

If that's really the case, which I don't know if it is, but if that's the case, I'm not even a little upset that he's leaving. I want team players, not players that are concerned about their NFL potential.

Heard the same thing. If that's the case we just trimmed the fat and opened up another roster spot.

Yep. That's not even remotely "Giving my all" and he should be ashamed that he ever slapped that sign

Slapping that sign is a contract. You are promising each and every time that you will give your all for TENNESSEE, and you can't do that voluntarily sitting on the sidelines.

I'm really disappointed if its actually true.

Back when Worley was QB North was doing fine. The question is if he can convince NFL coaches that the problem over last year and a half has not been him but our system with running QB. Probably not but at the same time nothing is going to change next year as long as Dobbs is the starting QB.

North must have rocks in his head. Or his "advisors" do. He is not even a good college WR. Oh well, this team is better without him.

Move on. Next up. Another over rated Vol bites the dust.
