Another great attitude from the class of 2016: Marquez Callaway.

From 247:

WR signee Marquez Callaway getting ‘ready to play’ for Tennessee Vols

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Callaway, who arrived at Tennessee on Sunday, said he has had similar conversations with Vols wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni over the past several weeks.

“He said that my chances (of playing) are real high, so get ready to play,” said Callaway, who was ranked the nation’s No. 103 overall prospect and No. 3 athlete in the 247Sports Composite for the 2016 class.

“He told me who all was leaving, who was staying, who was coming in and stuff. He told me that, and after I fit the puzzle together, (the opportunity to play) was pretty much there. The two (receivers) that got hurt, I didn’t know they were going to be injured. That was not planned.”

But as Callaway prepares to begin his college career Thursday when he begins his first-session summer classes at Tennessee, he said he’s not necessarily focused on playing and putting up big numbers as a freshman receiver.

He said he simply wants to help the Vols in any way possible.

“I’m trying to go in and help any way I can,” Callaway said. “If that’s playing, then I’m going to go in and help play. If my thing is going in and helping motivate people, then I’m going to go in and help motivate people. Basically, anything that will make us better, anything they need me to do, I’ll do it.

“I feel like, when I get there, I’m going to work as hard as I can and then some,” Callaway said. “But, then again, I’m going to work well with my teammates so we all can stay together and we all can push each other.

“We’ve got that group chat, so we’re all bonding very well. When we all get there, we’re just going to probably have even more fun. I think that’s pretty much what I’m looking forward to — going up there with the teammates that I’ve been talking to a lot and just go on from there, hold them accountable, they’re holding me accountable and go for success from there.”

Good stuff. Not looking very good at WR at the moment, hopefully he can come in and quickly contribute

This recruiting class may not get the hype of the previous two, but there are a bunch of really good football players in the 2016 class. With our numbers for that recruiting cycle so limited, the staff did a great job of filling gaps in the roster and bolstering our depth.

Of course, only time will tell, but I believe WR, DE, QB, TE, DB, and Special Tems got a big boost with this crop.

Agree. This class isn't coming in with the glitz or hype of the last couple, but it seems this class is full of hungry ballplayers. Yet to be seen, but I think this class has several special players coming with it...

lol where did you get that from? Most likely he will be gone barring injury or a horrible season but where in the interview was that indicated? Besides Callaway is a WR not a HB.

He mentioned that he'll start out with the #9 jersey, but plans to change to #1 in 2017 after Hurd leaves.

A lot of speed and athleticism in this class. There were a lot of talented, but raw guys taken which led to some lower rankings.

Love this kids attitude. Must have good parents. When a kid with the talent that Calloway has combines that with hard work, the result is almost always a very successful and productive player.

The line about holding each other accountable is big.All great teams have accountability to each other.

Well, I'm old or totally missed something for 40 years. They make cards for HS kids available to the public? I mean I had a trading card when I was playing little league at 8 yo but doubt you could get one without asking my mom as we only got like 10 with "Superstar" package. Although it didn't include the life size poster I wanted, well before Fatheads, it was pretty cool having a playing card.

But, seriously...playing cards for 17 year olds? Do they get paid for someone using their picture on a card? (That question is rhetorical)

🤔
