I liked Bruce and I like Martin. But if the anti Martin posters can bring up Bruce all year after every loss and proclaim how Bruce would have done so much better I can point out where and when Martin does better. The fact is in those situations Bruce's teams usually gave up. Including his last game when Michigan beat them by 30 in the NCAAs.
Instead of guessing what might have happened just look at the facts.
Bruce Pearl - 6 years and 6 NCAA Tourneys. 2 Sweet 16 and 1 Elite 8. 3 SEC East Titles(Memphis, Texas and Kansas games were also program changing wins)
Cuanzo Martin - 3 years and 1 NCAA Tourney, 1 Sweet 16
Jerry Green - 4 years and 4 NCAA Tourneys, 1 Sweet 16. 2 SEC East Titles
I hope he stays because we should have a good team next year and be able to make another run. His Sweet 16 run earns him an extension but I'm far from letting just an appearance in the NCAA earn you anything(See Jerry Green). Let's not rewrite history when comparing him to Bruce. You are what your record says you are!
Stupid talk by some posters. This man just took our team to an unexpected sweet 16 and some of you are happy if he leaves. Look, Bruce is not walking thru that Orange door and it might be in another 3 year drought if we do not get a quality replacement for CCM (if he leaves). I rather have CCM back next year because the player have bought into his system. I also do not see our athletic department opening up the purse to pay a quality nationally know coach.
Sweet 16 or not, we had only one great win all year. Winning three in the tourney was nice, but it's not like we beat a stellar trio--iowa was reeling at the end of the year, umass was a nice win over a team that was decent but nothing special...and mercer. I think we had as much talent as michigan--didn't play well.

The timing of this could be bad for UT. By the time, Marquette finishes interviewing candidates and extends an offer, most of the good candidates this season for a head coaching job would have already had offers extended to them. Leaving UT without a good list of candidates to fill its coaching vacancy. Timing can really hurt when hiring a coach.
Nicely done.Instead of guessing what might have happened just look at the facts.

Pointing out what Pearl did those years still doesn't prove anything about what he would or would not have done with this team. It still guessing, because you have no way to prove it one way or another.
Prior to the season it was somewhat expected. The very mediocre regular season is the only reason expectations were low.
I am very agnostic on this. I said earlier when this was mentioned that Martin's stock will never be higher and I believe that. If he goes he goes, but Hart better damn well hire the right coach. IMHO Martin is not a great fit for Tennessee and before I get blasted it has nothing to do with skin color, but everything to do with firing up the fan base. We won't know for a while about Jones but he has brought fun and excitement back to football, something I am not sure Martin can do even in good times.
Totally agree. I'm not trying to prove what any coach would do with any team other than the ones they actually coached. Just pointing out what previous coaches records are and everyone can decide for themselves. I said that he should get an extension for getting to the sweet 16 just like Jerry Green did when he reached the sweet 16.
