Marlin Lane

But Dooley doesn't know how to recruit - right?!

Lane was THE best in the U. S. as a junior in HS. Having had one; it takes 2+ years and a lot of work to fully recover from ACL reconstruction. Add in getting used to it being hit at every angle during practice/games. If he gets past the mental part we are in for something really special on Saturdays this fall.

Having had about as serious a knee injury as you can have, I can tell you that recovery times vary.

Everything I have heard on Lane says that he is 100%, if he wasn't, they would probably pull back a little, no?

Where does he fit in this year? Poole is an NFL back to me, what he did in that awful offense, behind that awful line last year was amazing, so will Neal be taking a backseat to Lane?

I'm all for best player getting the start, so if Lane is better then play him over Poole, but Poole is so underrated it's sick.

Excellent Post. Poole is the best back we have and it would take a herculean effort from Lane or Neal to supplant him. I do see Lane as the #2 back and The starter moving forward after Poole.

The 2 PRs in practice might have been impressive, but it was against the freshmen in no pads. I just hope we find someone other than Hunter and Lane to return punts. Don't need them hurt.

Same stuff was said about bryce. We will see

Bryce played one year here and behind a fantastic back in Montario. There has been nothing to indicate Bryce Brown can't be a great back going forward.

I agree. Bryce will be a very good RB.

+1

I do think if Grice comes on board, he would challenge any of the backs for the starting spot. Lane & Grice would be a hell of a combo. Tom Smith adds some great depth.

anyone been to any practices? if so, im interested to hear your thoughts on this young man.
i think this is the best player we've had on the team since mr berry. its my opinion that hes the best rb to play here since mr lewis, this kid just has the it factor. this kid has a peyton manning/eric berry type work ethic as well. janzen is a special talent no doubt, but something really stands out about lane. its one of those things u cant put a finger on, you could see the same thing in lewis and cobb when they first arrived.
needless to say im very excited to see what this kid can do as a freshman.

Once Jamaal Lewis learned the blocking scheme's, he began to play. Hopefully, Marlin has been learning the blocking scheme's already and will play against Florida in his freshman season, unlike, Jamaal was able to do.

No way Poole is more talented than Lane. He knows the system and will get the starts(unfortunately )..but if both were say sophomores and fighting for 1st string my money goes on Lane jmo..Poole hasn't shown me or obviously SEC coach's that he's an elite RB.jmo

My friend is a trainer on the football team and said that Lane has ridiculous speed. He actually taped up his ankles before practice and Lane told him that he can't wait to put on those pads and show everyone what he can do (paraphrasing of course). GBO!

When D Young comes back, do you think he gets a shot at PR or probably gets Redshirted for this season? He reminds me of Rogers from Oregon St. Could be a game breaker at PR.

In reality Poole isn't a good blocker. Surely Lane couldn't be any worse.

Having an upperclassman that knows the system is unfortunate? Interesting.

IMO...if he can actually catch a punt..he will get the chance to do so. He was brought in to do it....no reason to sit him on the bench.
