Marlin Lane is listed as the #1 PR today for practice according to the coaches, this is the first combined practice of Newcomeres and Vets.

I just hope he makes it out of fall camp without injury. Seems lately everytime we get a returner that we are happy with they break a bone (young) or tear an achilles (wells) or just can't catch a punt (literally everyone else).

The last meaningful punt return we had that I can remember (or care about) was the one that Peerless Price took to the house against Bama in 1998.

We need more punt returns, more often. Period.

That was a kickoff return.

The last one I remember is Terry Fair against UCLA in 96. Surely we have had a PR for a TD since then.

I agree. PR are such a game changer. Same goes for Kickoffs. I'd say we're due for a PR or KR especially with the athletes we have returning them now. There is no reason we shouldn't have one against one of the 12 teams we play this year.

Prediction: A tight game in the first quarter with Montana is broken open by a PR for a TD. Not sure by who though...

We have. It was in 2004. Can not remember by who though. Last long KR though was in 1999 by Leonard Scott against UGA in Neyland. 12 years since a KR is ridiculous. Bret Smith had one but that was an onside kick.

Whatever. :) It went to the house and that's all I remember. I also remember John Ward saying, "There are not no yellow flags on the field yet... no flags... TOUCHDOWN, TENNESSEE!! PEERLESS....PRICE!!!"

I love that guy. (no homo)

IIRC, Jonathan Hefney had a PR for a touchdwon that was called back due to a penalty in 04. He also returned a punt to inside the 5 yard line in 06 or 07 against South Carolina.

Am I the only one nervous about wagering a possible future star at RB on risky punt returns?

Probably Mark Jones I think he took one punt (03) and one kickoff (Alabama in 02) to the house.

I think Hefney had one called back unless I'm misremembering.

Da'rick had the longest kickoff return (79 yards) last year agaist Ky since Mark Jones 82 yard TD agaist Alabama in 2002
