He probably should have been fired a couole of years back

Edited to add.
Wonder if CJH intensely dislikes all the Stoops boys. Mark will make someone a good DC.

Wouldn't be opposed to it......hes a tenured DC specializing in DBs......thats supposed to be Banks forte as well.

I cannot help but laugh at how gangsta Mark Stoops has been about this season and his future at Kentucky. No one had any illusions about what's been going on. The press asked him in the Louisville postgame if he was leaving and he said "Like, I'm going to walk away? Are you kidding me? ... Zero percent chance I walk."

That wasn't some kind of heartfelt statement of commitment to Kentucky, either. That was "No way I'm leaving this contract. You're gonna have to pay up to get me to go." Just. Cold as ice. Had them over a barrel and was going to ride that burning ship all the way down unless they paid him to leave.

Why? They'll never do any better.
Don't think that's the case in the NIL era. If you've got people willing to pour money in to the program, you can be as good as anyone else. For all the bad the last few years of CFB changes have brought, that is one of the good. School history/being a blueblood/etc just doesn't matter anymore. All that matters is having a good enough coaching staff and money to buy a good enough roster.

If he is getting that much money with a buyout, he doesn't need to work. It would have to be love for the game.

Yeah im under no illusion that he'd wanna work for at least a few years.....if ever. I was just playing along with the hypothetical. On that note im afraid Josh has some Fulmer in him in that hes too loyal. I like Josh and think hes a good coach (and offensively minded top 10 coach for sure) but he needs a diehard disciplined DC that he can turn loose to do their thing.

Would love to get Stoops to UT as a DC. No clue his relationship with Heupel.

I know drink hates Heupel but I think the rest of the head coaches are chummy with each other.

NIL has definitely helped some of these mid-level programs compete (Indiana and Ole Miss are good examples). Does Kentucky have enough people willing to pour money into football to the degree that's necessary to compete? Seems basketball is the priority up there.

I've been following this very closely. Expect them to go after Oregon OC Will Stein or OSU OC Brian Hartline. Both have Kentucky ties.

Will Stein was born and raised in Kentucky, grew up a Kentucky fan (until being recruited to play at Louisville), his dad played for UK, and his family is still in Kentucky. Brian Hartline's brother, Mike, played at UK
