Just saw this today. Mario Cristobal is entertaining offers to other schools. Taggert has apparently offered him a job as have McElwain at UF. So should Butch give him an offer? I say hell yes and give him what he wants. For those who dont know, Cristobal is Alabamas OL coach and one of the best recruiters in the country.

I gotta think unless he's gonna be given an OC job or made OL coach/assistant HC he's just trying to get a pay raise.

While Cristobal could move on if someone were to give him the extra money that comes with an "assistant head coach" or "director of recruiting" title, nothing in your link says that he's "thinking about leaving Bama."

A bidding war with Bama now would be more embarrassing than 49-10

Saban isn't losing him if he don't want to. Cristobal coaches tackles and TEs, is Asst Head Coach and recruiting coordinator. Saban can pay him whatever he wants. MC may want to go west or back to Fla. we don't need him at Florida.

Makes too much sense , plus that means Butch will finally have hired 2 good coaches. But I am sure thinks Mahoney is the best OL coach in the NCAA

Coaches turn over pretty fast at Bama because they want to learn from Nick but only a few want to be around him very long.

The great thing about being a position coach is flexibility. If you get tired of the idiotic fans in Knoxville or Tuscaloosa, there are plenty of places you can go and coach while your family can live their lives for a couple of years before idiot fans there figure out who they are.

Maybe that is the case for Cristobal. As to bringing him here, it is up to a head coach whether or not he is worth a phone call to him or his agent. But I would think since we have Larry Scott covering S. Florida, would we be better off with someone connected to another region? Just food for thought.

Pretty much this. When Kirby left Bama he tried to get their S&C coach. Their wives are best friends and UGA offered him a huge raise. Saban still wanted him so he just matched it and he stayed in Tuscaloosa. Never leave a good thing unless there's a lot more money involved

May just be me, but I'm tired of hiring former Alabama coaches.

Last couple of times we wooed away their coaches, they turned out just to be Saban plants who were like walking IED's in our program (Thompson, Sunseri). Should have known when Sunseri's kid stayed at Alabama, he was just here to screw us up as much as possible. Doofus didn't even see Saban's play till it was over.

OK to start with i don't get it why when someone leaves another program there is always a thread about we should go after this guy. Second off if you watch Alabama runs a pro style offense we don't. Butch is not going to even look at guys like this.

This holds true for all assistants who want to move up the ladder. Learn as much as you can as fast as you can from multiple HC's.

Forget anybody ... like the infamous derek dooley?

According to Wikipedia (so it's has to be true), he ran a spread as HC at FIU. Wouldn't be bad as a OC/OL coach

Exactly what I was thinking. If offers are out there and they are substantial, I'm sure he is going to listen. If anything he will get a pay increase if he stays.
