JERRY CALDWELL: There’s not a bad seat here. From the beginning, I remember the folks who came in from Tennessee when we were still in discussions and wanted to see the facility before they agreed to anything. He said ‘whoa, wait a minute this is just a big football stadium.’ We jokingly say we’re a football stadium on steroids. There’s not a bad seat in a house without any TVs, and when you add Colossus in the mix you aren’t going to miss anything.

That's a lie. VN has been telling me for three years that you won't be able to see a thing.

Well now to be honest they didn't say anything about being able to see the game, they just said they're no bad seats. And in his defense most of the seats are newer.

I think a lot of people are going to be surprised at how good the views are. The grandstands aren't as far away from the field as some make it sound. If you're up in the Wallace tower, that might be different, but the grandstands are going to be really good. Sure, it's further away from the field than the first 20 rows at Neyland, but people who are expecting to not be able to see anything are going to be really surprised. In a good way.

I don't think I will have enough room to set up my telescope without blocking the aisle and the people behind me.

What's funny is the boos that will come when the refs miss a fumble or PI call. The fans from 1/8mi away will be critiquing the refs who are 20ft from the action. Hehe.

Has anyone been to the track and have seen Colossus in person? In today's world of Jumbotrons it doesn't look that impressive. I guess I'll see next Sat.

Pictures don't do it justice. Colossus is pretty damn impressive and the new sound system at BMS is great.

This video is from the top row of the Waltrip section at last week's race. They are ready for the big orange takeover!

This Is a view from The Allison's, around 50 rows up, from last week's race. Colossus still looks a tad small, but it's impressive in person.

These two men work for Bruton Smith--they are promoting the speedway. They are not objective observers. There may not be any bad seats in that place, but there may not be too many good seats either. Given that tracks sit idle for most of the year, maybe they're angling for more football games--but other than VA. Tech or UT possible playing there again in the future--either against one another again or against other teams--I can't see that place being viable for other teams.

Hilarious considering there is a game there literally the next week.

Theory?

I don't think there was a doctoral dissertation on the question, LawGator.

More like an idea: let's make some money, get two nearby schools together at a stadium right on the border, and shatter the record for attendance at a football game.

Doesn't take any kind of theorizing to come up with that. If you don't get it, either it's because you don't want to, or you're not very bright. I mean, it's the brainchild of some good ole boys from Appalachia.

As brother Dobbs would say, it isn't Rocket Science. :eek:lol:

OK.

I just always thought that these neutral site games were money grabs. Thing is, a game at home generates hotel rooms, restaurant sales, etc. Is the trade off worth it?

I'm sure they studied it.

Considering what we had before, it is most definitely impressive. And with the new sound system, I can actually understand what's being said during pre-race activities.

He didn't have to. There are plenty here at VolNation that will say it for him. Even if they've never set foot inside BMS.

You're right. Most of the people I have seen complaining about views haven't been there, aren't going to the game, or both.

it is going to be fun at any rate, but after watching the live cam of progress you can barley see anyone walking on the field. You will have to watch the big screen to see the play going on.

But don't camera shots make things appear farther away than they really are? I have been there and seen Colossus and photos just don't do it justice.

and if you drink too much "barley" it won't make any difference.
