Smart will serve his penalty but the dumb redneck just goes on throwing racial slurs. I'm sure he will get his own one day.

Maybe so, maybe not. You know where to find me. Either carry out the threat or resign yourself to its emptiness.

Never threatened you just answered your question. You are the little man who took to name calling

There's a difference between condoning violence and understanding that a 20 year old guy might have problems maintaining his composure in a stressful situation.

Yet some think they are better than that and root against the kid

Not at all. It's responding to nothing more than mere words with physical violence. The explanation is that Smart is a jerk that cannot control his own actions and, as a consequence, unjustly assaulted someone.

Is a light shove really assault?

Most venues put warnings on the back of the ticket about how they can't be held responsible for batted balls, wayward pucks, etc. Why not just add on that they can't be held responsible for you deciding to act like an ******* and getting put in your place, be it by another fan or competitor? Smart is gonna get the weight of the flack on this issue, but if that fan did use a racial slur, how can you fault Smart for shoving him? As another poster mentioned, if this happened out on the street, Smart would carry no blame in this instance. Purchase of a ticket does not grant you free reign and protection from retribution.

Obviously Smart should not have pushed the guy, but I bet the white dude dropped the N bomb. Smart was an idiot for doing that but it is ridiculous what fans can say to the players and get away with.

He shouldn't have done it but lets not act like smart beat the guy.

He should be suspended a few games and probably forced to go to counseling to deal with anger issues.

The fan will hopefully get his ass kicked at some point in his life assuming he really is out there calling kids the n word.

Yep. Poor judgment. Like I posted before, I'm really surprised some are trying to defend this behavior, regardless of what the fan said.

I'm in this minority depending what was said. If it was the n -word, something about a deceased/troubled relative, his child (if he has one) then I personally have no problem with it. Smart did nothing to provoke it and held his cool the first time, when he all he initially did was say something back. The fan had to get the last word in and whatever it was that's what made him snap. I agree with Bilas' assessment of the situation. Smart needs to understand fans talk crap to athletes and you have to be able to take it but TTU has a responsibility to attempt and control their fans behavior, especially super fan Jeff Orr who has a history of doing this crap.

I remember a student bringing pics of Matt Walsh's g/f from her Playboy centerfold and passing them out. He and anyone caught with one were promptly escorted out.

The replay shows a black person behind the heckler, if this person comes forward they could shed some truth to what happened.

Fans yell stupid crap at basketball games all the time. It's not a situation unique to this particular idiot fan. It's irrelevant to the discussion, IMO.

trying to be objective, looks to me like Smart reacted with the push after the fan kindof flailed his hand just a couple of inches from Smart's face.

Not taking the side of either one. That's just what I saw happen. The push doesn't occur without the guy moving his hand towards Smart's face. For every action, there is a reaction.
