That's rarely the case anywhere. O-lines don't rotate in and out much, might get your QB killed.

That's because so few teams go legitimately more than 7 deep. If you have 8-10 guys that can go in without a drop off then that allows you to get your OL rest like the DL's they face get. To answer the question... yeah, I think when UT had a great rushing attack they had some back ups who gave quality relief.

It is also a good way to prevent injuries to your first OL's.

Doesnt matter. The point is that we arent built as a team to just "run it down your throat." Im also not claiming that I like the spread and the fun-n-gun but it is whats winning these days...

Wait, does Atlanta extend past the perimeter? Could have fooled me.

Vinings, Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, Doraville/Norcross, Panthersville, and the area west of 285 south of I 20 all the way over to the Chattahoochee river

Best talent on the OL in years. I can't wait to see them when they're all Juniors and Seniors. Someone said they miss when we were a dominant running team and I agree.
Talent? OL? Been a while since we've been able to say that.

Fair enough. Offenses come and go. The one constant throughout the ages of football is a solid ground game. That's what I was alluding to. I'm just not a finnesse kind of guy, former OL (center) here. Gimmicks, smoke and mirrors, etc can work. BUT, if one has an effective running game, all phases of the team are helped. Less fieldtime for defense, wear down opponents, etc.

Shove the ball down their throats.....and make them like it! THAT'S FOOTBALL! All this spread, fun-n-gun, 5 wide crap is more like a ballettesque scrum for nancy-boys.

I'm a big fan of defense and a power running game.

Couldn't agree more. Former hs D coord here. Nothing better than trying to get into an O coord head.... Defense and a strong run game are absolute things of beauty. They are more beautiful than any masterpiece ever painted, IMO. You all getting me fired up...ready to don the pads and start knocking snot out of people.

As I age, Christmas comes around faster and faster but College football season never seems to come soon enough.

I subscribe to D and the Running game winning championships. I know the spread is the flavor of the day; I haven't had a chance to break it down but I would believe that every team that has won a championship had a good D to go along with the smoke and mirrors. If you break down this years NC game; the way I viewed it, is that Auburn won the game by playing solid D against an explosive O. The score kind of supports my view. I know others may not have seen it that way, but that is my belief for what its worth.

Please come to my house, allergy season came early.

Lol. I'd love to....BUT I would probably strain my pancreas just suiting up. Sucks to get old. Sucks worse to get old AND broken down.

Solid post. I think your conclusions are VERY valid. Throwing for 500 yds/game sells a hell of a lot of tickets. Strong D and strong running wins a hell of a lot of championships.

Dang, just looked at the box score for that game and both teams basically gave up 500 yards. I guess it was more bend not break D.

Auburn's D was the difference. I know Tubberville and Don Dunn (former DT coach) under Tubbs. I met Chizik during a visit at a camp. Smart Defensive guy. Was not my favorite guy on staff though. The HC I worked for played ball with Dunn at ETSU in the late '70's.

Great Running Game and hard nose defense is a good way to win. Its a ball control offense. The more less what it is made for is to slow the tempo down and control the clock. Like Alabama did 2 yrs ago. It's a chess game with that style of play. Now the spread offense is simple you stop trying to out think and out play them to just plain out run over them.
