Marcques Dixon - new commit

Your little jab was noticed and dismissed. My point is that not all great players are 5 star. We need players and depth at this point.

And everything you say is dismissed because you are missing MY point.

Would you rather have Seantrel Henderson or Marquis Pair? Neither one of them have proven anything yet in college. I want a straight forward answer. Which would you rather have? Would you rather believe the ratings or suggest that Pair will be a great player and Henderson will not?

If the coaches offered both then I would take whoever wanted to come here. That means that the coach that would be working with them thinks that they both have great ability! Its coaching that makes these players who they are!

With his height and over all size, Seantrel is the next Jonathan Ogden!! I agree with you both on certin points but I'll take Henderson any day!!!

ATEOTD I will trust our coaches scouting but ONLY because they haven't proven otherwise.

If Fulmer was wanting this guy, no offense, but I'd be more pessimistic about a player we're getting that had single digit offers and actually had us in a short list with Central Michigan.

Yes I want Henderson. I just feel like people are upset that Dixon is only a 3 star, etc. I think its also important to realize that there are exceptions as you said earlier. We dont KNOW that Dixon will be good or bad just like we dont KNOW that Seantrel will be good. The ratings are at best an educated guess true. I just wish some people would be willing to look past some of the rankings thats all and be happy that we recived another commit instead of the opposite.

TCU will take all the three stars you'll give em.

and TCU will never seriously contend for a National Title either. yes, theyre very good for not being at the center of the recruiting front. however, their schedule allows for a 9 or 10 win season and when they play the best, like Texas a few years ago, they lose. you arent seeing Henderson, Seastrunk, Lattimore, or the rest of the 5 stars clamoring to hop onto the FrogTrain. as long as the Texas, FLoridas, and Bamas stay undefeated, it will never matter if TCU does.

i agree with Mr. Bam. his point is valid.

for the record, im thrilled that hes a Vol. yay.

I imagine they offered him for his playmaking ability on special teams. That YouTube video was very impressive. Kids got some wheels.

Is it true this kid didn't play HS football till his Senior year? So he was late into the recruiting process, Right? Has anybody heard that?

Maybe Im givin this kid to much props comparing him to Demps but Im just using Demps as an example size and speed wise. Ive been waitin for years for us to sign a guy under 6' with 4.4 speed!! Their speed and center of gravity allows them to do things larger backs cant. Look at Ray Rice, I think he was a 3* and he is runnin wild in the NFL!

I agree. I hope he's the best CB in the history of the world if he's playing for UT. I mean, look at my avatar... Taylor is a 3* (ATM anyway).

If our staff likes Dixon, I'll take him. I just didn't think we'd take more than 2 DBs and I was hoping the only Dixon in that conversation was going to be Ahmad. Ratings or no ratings, he'll be a solid player. They may give Marcques a shot at offense but I foresee him mainly used on special teams and maybe as a nickel DB.

Yes. Prolly why he's only a 3 star, as if that really makes any difference!

This was LV's post from the M. Dixon thread:

Dixon is a 3star CB in Decatur (where the Vols will be practicing this week for the bowl game) and is teammates with Stripling, Malcome, Mincy, and Golightly...

He didn't play football his junior season so many people didn't know anything about him. But he tore it up this season especially in the return game...

A new article on Rivals today says he just received an offer from Tennessee and Miami in the past 10 days. With him getting the offer and the way Orgeron is all over him, it seems like we really want this kid and his stock is just now rising...

He has already been to UT earlier this season on an official visit, and he says he's going to come back to Knoxville on an official in January. It looks like he will be taking in a Vols' practice in Decatur this week as well...

Good recruit!

Like I said, if this was another 3* recruit and Fulmer was coaching next year... I'd be alot more pessimistic about it.

I agree. While I wish it was Ahmad, I'm still glad to have this guy on our team. As you said, if this staff sees something in him then he's good in my book.

Kids being recruited as an ATH so who knows where they'll put him?? CB, RB, K-PT return...

Not giving him the Heisman or anything just sayin, kid has break away speed!

"I still have some interest in Southern Miss and Miami but I'm pretty solid to Tennessee," he said. "Those schools have a chance at changing my mind." He also had increasing interest from Alabama and Cincinnati as well as offers from Central Michigan and UAB.

So basically, we just received a soft verbal from a 3*/1* athlete with no other SEC offers.... and we're excited. Wow, talk about any non bad news being good news..... Where's all the silent’s?

You can add AL to the list of schools that have a chance at changing his mind if they offer...

Sorry, really not trying to be Debbie the downer, but this really seems like a damage control offer and subsequent commitment from a mid level talent. “But Miami offered…” So? He said he wanted to play in the SEC where his other 4 teammates have committed. This staff must know we're not looking to good with some other prospects so they’re starting to make offers to their second/third/etc. choices.

Montori Hughes was a 2* and a 1*.......guess we should get rid of him too??

For every MH and D. McCluster that played better than their ranking, I’ll show you 20/30 players that played up to or below their 1/2/3 star ranking. There's such a thing as the "exception"
