Came across this interesting graphic yesterday. Tennessee's rate of 0.97 is just under the national average of 1.00.

Top 10 states:
1. Hawaii
2. Louisiana
3. Alabama
4. Florida
5. Mississippi
6. Georgia
7. Texas
8. Ohio
9. Utah
10. Oklahoma

* corrected to include Hawaii

Because Alaska has like 12 people living there. If one of them plays football, their per capita talent is off the charts.

For the non Latin enthusiasts, per capita means per person (or per head if your a purist)

Since some people don't seem to understand what "per capita" means, here you go, from dictionary.com:

per cap·i·ta [per kap-i-tuh] noun
1. by or for each individual person: income per capita.
2. Law. noting or pertaining to a method of dividing an estate by which all those equally related to the decedent take equal shares individually without regard to the number of lines of descent.

Alaska and Hawaii have higher ratings because of their relatively low populations. This shouldn't be surprising to anyone.

A lot of the other states have juco football which probably helps their average. Also, if Tennessee did have football at the juco level we would be much higher

Polynesians (Tongans, Somoans, etc).

This is racist, but alot of those kids are just born to beat their heads against another person on the gridiron. If you hire a moving crew in Utah, 4/5 of them will be polynesian. They just have that innate strength that lends itself well to football.

I hope. But, i hope we don't lean on that too heavily. Ever notice that the "stocked with 4 & 5*" rosters OSU & ND have never compete with UF, LSU, Bama, etc? I've come to think not all 4* are equal. & we always talk about what would so & so strong Big 10 team's record be if in the SEC, right? Well, i think recruiting services prob do a good job at noting talent, & doing so in consideration with what level a kid plays at (5A vs 2A or whatevrr system a state uses), but what i don't think they can acct for is putting a northern player on a southern team in their minds. Where *all players are better, stronger, faster, & tell us then whether the player would look like a 4*?
