Many teams are struggling

So far 5 top 25 teams have fallen and there is a guarantee 1 more will go down Monday night, making the total 6 when #11 Ole Miss plays #4 FSU. There is also a possibility of a seventh ranked team losing tonight when #10 ND visits unranked TX.
So far #3, #5, #16, #20 and #22 have all been beaten.

So minimally 6 of the top 25 and possibly 7 will take a week 1 loss. Think about that for a minute. That's almost 1/4 of the best preseason teams have already lost. Teams like OK, USC and UNC lost to other ranked teams but that's not the case for #5 LSU and #16 UCLA. Although I will say both Wisconsin and A&M will be ranked come Tuesday morning.

If Ole Miss pulls off the win against FSU then that would be 3 of the top 5 teams losing in week 1 alone! If TX pulls the upset then possibly 4 of the top 10 take a week 1 loss. (Really want TX to beat ND)

#9 UT needed OT to pull off a 7 point victory over App ST and #2 Clemson held on for a 6 point victory over Auburn. These were the only other top 25 games within 1 score at the final.

3 top 10 teams failed to cover the spread while still winning: Clemson, Stanford and Tennessee. Add in the 2 top 10 teams that lost and that's 50% of the top 10 teams in the country failed to cover the spread.

So to all of my UT friends out there just let that sink in. No, our favorite team did not play well Thursday night but there are hundreds of threads to go let those feelings be know in. College football is always a game where anything is possible. It is still possible to win it all for the Vols while for others who came into the 2016 season with the same goals, dreams and aspirations that road just got a lot more difficult than ours.

After this weekend several teams were exposed and some that should have been ranked that maybe weren't. A&M looks really good and Bama looked amazing but Bama win to me was to probably the most over ranked team in the top 25.
Our vols may be a little high in the rankings but I feel like we come out this week and show why we are ranked.

Tennessee will drop out of top 10. Look for Washington, Georgia, Louisville, TCU and Baylor to move up. OU and LSU will move down and USC will move out of top 25 and Wisconsin into top 20. Boise St. and Oregon will be on the move.

Top 5 should be 1) Bama 2) Clemson 3) Ohio St. 4) Stanford 5) FSU then Michigan, Stanford and Houston.

Why would TCU necessarily move up? They gave up 41 points to an FCS team? That game was close for over three quarters and the spread was around 36 points.

There is also a reason why folks do NOT use the first week as the ultimate say on what the entire season will look like. It takes a good 3 to 4 weeks, depending upon who is playing whom to separate the pretenders from those that are going to possibly be standing at the end of the season. Those that won obviously have a head start on those that did not regardless of whether the win was impressive or not.

If those teams that struggled win like they are suppose to next week and the week after - the struggle in the first game is forgotten.

If those teams that won easily struggle in the coming weeks - they have a hard time making folks forget as they can't claim first game mistakes.

After that ugly win and a few days of reflection, I am grateful that the Vols will be one of only six teams in the pre season top 10 that will go into Week 2 undefeated.

I'm hopeful that the team learned a lot from that game and grew closer together as a result of that gritty win. It's time to move on to dominating VT at Bristol.

Yep.

Honestly, seeing lots of teams struggle is a positive sign to me. First games that suck happen. I hope we come out Saturday firing on all cylinders.

Norte Dame falls. Folks that means there is a 100% chance that 4 of the top 11 take a week 1 loss. 3 of the 9 top 10 teams that have played already in week 1 have lost.

Just think Thursday night most thought the Vols would drop from the top 10. It's more likely they actually move up in the polls after a wild week 1.

I project UT to be ranked 8th. Houston will move up ahead of the Vols and so would Ole Miss with a win over FSU. I will say that if Ole Miss wins a close one then FSU will not drop from the top 10 thus keeping the Vols in the #8 spot.

So I would say we see UNC, USC and UCLA drop out of the top 25 and Wisconsin, TX and A&M all enter and all 3 of those teams will enter between 12 and 20.

None of the top 11 teams from week 1 that took a loss will drop out of the top 25.

I'm using the coaches poll for these projections.

I'm thinking A&M comes in at around 15. Texas will be top 5 because they beat Notre Dame. And Notre Dame will be top 10 because they lost on the road in double overtime to #5 Texas. Wisconsin will be top 10 because they took down the Tigers. Oklahoma will be around 10. So top 10 should be Alabama. Clemson. Florida State. Houston. Texas. Ohio State. Michigan. Stanford tied with Wisconsin. Notre Dame and then Tennessee or Oklahoma.

It would be unusual to fall from a present rank with an ugly win, especially this early in the season so it was fun for me to read all the predictions of how far we would fall. It would not be unusual to be jumped by a team(s) who played lights out better, keeping us from advancing but I think we remain where we are.
