Many people reporting Hurd is now gone (Merged)

Hurd has left the program, why talk about this any longer? Last time I checked the football forum was for Tennessee football. Hurd is now history, thread belongs in another forum now. IMHO

He will average 5-7 yards a carry in the proper offensive scheme. There will be more leaving if Jones doesn't change his scheme.

Not necessarily change the scheme but use the full scheme at least. Dobbs never keeps the ball on the read option which is a huge part of this offense. Therefore defenses target the running back on every play. Dobbs has no deep ball so defenses load the box.

With an average offensive line and an average QB I think this offense will probably be okay. In regard to Dobbs, when he is on he is great. The only problem is that he may only be on 6 games of the year.

I don't particularly blame Hurd. He just does not fit in with this offensive scheme. Kamara and Kelly seem to work better. Hurd would have fit in well with our 90's offense

Couldn't agree more. I've been saying this all year, its not his abilities, its the scheme. When they recruited him, he fit the system. I hope he stays and the coaches fix this, but if not then I will always be a fan. He is a beast!!

So at what point do we stop blaming players and start looking at this coach and staff? 3 years ago when Wharton and others left, they were just recruited over. Then there were the allegations of bush punching a player, message board says player needs to toughen up. When your boss is verbally and physically abusive and you go find another job, you're not labeled a quitter you just took care of yourself. So when is it going to be looked at like the players are taking care of themselves?

watch first quarter of Florida game again and get back to me

Watch the Texas A&M game and get back to me.... Watch the SC game again on SEC Replay and get back to me... For your one little quarter of semi-accurate passing, I can show you full games, this year and last year, where our receivers had to fight to catch underthrown balls or balls thrown behind them where they had to twists to catch them.....

Once again, I totally believe Butch promised Hurd the I-Formation to keep him here. We did it in the bowl game and it worked, and Butch was clearly pissed that it worked.... Butch is a fraud. he can recruit, but he sure as hell can't develop talent.

Don't like getting into these pi--ing matches, but Horse Sh--! What fact or otherwise do you base this statement on? Also, what makes you think Butch was "pissed" that the I worked?? Horse-Sh--!!

If Hurd wants to leave that reflects only on his character.
Butch's job doesn't hang in the balance of him or the defensive tackle no one even knows.

That is the problem with many kids these days...it gets tough, or they get chewed on...they want to quit.

I'll hold the door for both of them.

Let me get this straight. You re 5 or 6 games away from being an NFL running back . . .

I am not convinced he can play running back in the NFL. Honestly, he looks slow on the field against SEC competition. He'd struggle mightily against professional players.

But, I wish the best for him. I'd love to be proven wrong.

Insanity is doing what doesn't work over and over again, thinking it will work.... We clearly ended the season with a great scheme with players that would be returning the next season.... We clearly went back to dink and dunk ball and lucked out in the first half of the season.... Why would we continue game after game to run Hurd east and west? Yet in the bowl game, we run the ball downhill with him and succeed....

Classic Butch.

Whatever

He has been useless this year and outplayed by the other backs

The concerning part is how the coaching staff let such a talent regress and be such a headcase.

I think it's safe to say that our luck has run out the season and the wheels are coming off for Butch and his staff.

Hurd is a step slow. Dobbs is not a top notch passing QB. OC is not very good.

That is all.

According to swain, and now Jimmy Hyams on twitter, Hurd is leaving. I am listening to this whole "promise" crap, I for one do not agree. Football is not a game of promise's, you go out and perform and if you aren't cutting it, then you sit your ass on the bench. I have supported Hurd as I do the rest of this football team, but plain and simple, Hurd was and is lacking this year, the kid has so much talent but is playing like a soft scared freshman. Do not give me that o line crap neither, because Kamara is running behind the same line and he carves it up.

Swain keeps saying "let's look at both sides", "let's be fair", NO!!!!! I have no idea what happened in that team meeting or what's been going on in the locker room but Hurd went downhill very quickly and is honestly not the best option, I don't care who that pains or who gets offended, it's the truth. This issue doesn't need to be a lingering one that kills the team, they need to move on and I hope they do.

Hurd went downhill when he stopped running downhill. He started dancing behind the line and he just isn't that kind of back.

lighten up, francis. i didn't say none of this was on dobbs. ORIGINAL reply was to someone saying to fire azzani.

No. Tell us more

I don't know what the heck is going on. They broke the news of Hymn's saying Hurd told teammates that he was transferring. They cancelled other guest because Hymns was to call in. Still no Hymns after almost an hour.

Mark Howard was throwing Hurd under the bus. A newspaper reporter from M'boro called in saying Hurd has always had an bad attitude even back to being a freshman in high school and quit on his high school team.

Hmmm, the running scheme we used to beat the #12 team in bowl game was never used this season even though we had the same offensive players returning.... It is not like we had new players to put in.... It was malpractice to not start the season with what worked to end the last season....

We ran about 10 times from the I in a specific game. It was a wrinkle. We've been in the pistol plenty this year with an H-back in motion.

Failure on this staff part to mold system to his strengths.i dont balme him our run game is not as creative as last year. Staff is terrible.

What!?!?!? Mold system to fit one player? You must jest. Other than it's a team, not one player and a bunch of helpers. If a staff did such a foolish thing, what happens when he gets hurt??

Let me get this straight. You re 5 or 6 games away from being an NFL running back, the all-time leading rusher at the University of Tennessee, but now you want to play Tight end or wideout at another school where you will have to sit out for a year despite supposedly having a beat up body? Yeah I call bull**** on this. He may not be happy with his current situation, but this is an incredibly bad decision. I can't believe people close to him would allow this to take place at this particular point and time.

Hurd, assuming a clean physical and good combine, was going to get drafted. (Never as high as D4H would have had you believe but still) Unless he really did short out some circuits and simply need to be off this team I can't understand any reason to transfer at this point.

I wish him the best of luck. The scheme just did not fit his style of running, and he's beat up because of a struggling line.

I also am excited to see him at the TE spot on an NFL roster some day.

IMHO CBJ wants to run a certain type of offense. Many reference this as "RPO", or run, pass, option that requires a quick read. None of us can understand why Hurd was in line to be UT's all time leading rusher and suddenly, starting with Appy St. the offensive scheme is failing with Hurd as #1 back. Defensive coordinators are gap rushing and assigning LB's to fill certain gaps. There's no where to go when Hurd is in the backfield but wide. The gamble is to beat it on offense the ability to complete passes downfield of let's say 10-15 yds. which would force linebackers deeper. But.....DC's are playing zone type pass defenses and this is confusing Dobbs. All in all UT does have a potent offense and our opponents know it. Defenses are crashing our "mesh point" or trying to and this is the point of decision where Dobbs reads the position of the defensive end.....etc. At SC, Muschamp,an old defensive coordinator simply copied Pruett's,(Bama DC), game plan and UT hasn't adjusted or failed to adjust and Dobbs admitted it was one of his worst games. Hurd has been our bread and butter but teams evolve. We are now playing behind the chains all too often. Because CBJ apparently insists on this RPO offense it really does require specific types of players to obtain maximum efficiency. Next man to consider as a "no-fit" is likely to be Q.Dormandy. This is only my opinion and i think the worst part is CBJ isn't being truthful to certain players. I feel it's true that Hurd saw it coming and wanted to transfer.I'm gonna staunchly support Hurd for what he is or what he was working to be a pro-style power runner. Many on here allude to CBJ being stubborn and maybe that's the case but it appears to have a negative impact on the offense because they know they are being ask to run plays that every defense is prepared for and expecting. The problem is very noticeable but the solution requires time and practice at a very bad time. Good Luck Jalen and thanks for the diligent effort and example you set as a player at UT.
It's nice to see someone respond who understands football - congratulations. I honestly feel like we wouldn't be having these issues if we had a good passing threat.

Yep... Hard to figure. Got to be A LOT more to this.

It's bad when a Tennessee boy transfers. That's when you know the person in charge is screwing things up. No wonder Higgins doesn't want to come to Tenn.
Get rid of Butch...
