When Fulmer ran the I Formation year in and year out it was perceived as boring and outdated by the legions of the miserable. Most Vol fans back then would've pined for the read option offense Butch runs.

There is a problem though. Fulmer came from the culture of power running, I formation... Butch has called himself an offensive mind and yet, he hasn't developed any kind of consistent QB in his time here or offense for that matter.

I will be straight up honest here. If you have ever coached football or just coached kids in general in any sport, the things you see during the game with Hurd was very troubling. One thing I noticed on TV was after his TD, he came off the field with an attitude face, many of the other players just passed him and didn't say anything. This also tells me there are problems in the locker room. I also can confirm his screaming match with coaches during the Georgia game and he tried to quit after that game too. Not one player is above the team. He has had 122 carries this year so he has had his chances to make plays.

No sane person really thinks the pistol and the shotgun work for every single situation. Goal line and short yardage situations deserve a package similar to the I.

This is not, and never was, a fitting style for him.
