https://bricesviewsfromthetop.wordp...a-day-meant-to-currie-favor-among-vol-nation/

UT on Friday, per Davenport’s demands, will release Currie’s contract and salary info. She refused to answer my question on the matter. It will be five years; it will be around a starting salary of $900k plus incentives. Currie also has a strong buyout from K-State; that matter will be of great interest. She could have just said, “Hey, we want him around here as long as possible, and we’ll get the details as soon as possible.” It wasn’t smooth.

The admin and boosters never cease to amaze me.

Will we ever know exactly why Blackburn never was even interviewed/considered? He was such an obvious candidate that even if he was never considered, he would have gotten the perfunctory interview. No experience at a P5 (or even an FBS football) school? Prior disputes with important people on the BoT?

Turnkey was mentioned a bunch in the opening press conference; a clear CYA move.

I'd love to see some K-State people come on here and give their thoughts about Currie? Sad to see him go? Glad to see him go? Indifferent?

Weber won the Big 12 first season and returned to the tourney his second.

Martin's players and the fans were on the verge of revolting against him, he was and/or is huge prick. There's a reason Miami didn't want him and why Martin ended up at a school with minimal expectations for basketball. Also, K-state is a solid program especially considering where it's at, not the best but solid and has been much closer recently to a National Championship and Heisman than we have.

If Blackburn never got an interview.. it means they were not interested.. it happens everyday with all jobs.. not hard to understand

I've never seen anything like this. Blackburn gained some kind of weird legendary status in a lot of people's minds based solely on the fact that they recognized his name.

I was a huge advocate. Never deluded myself into thinking he was the only choice. Don't get who we want? TMZ whomever violates and actually accepts the job. :aggressive:

Jimmy Haslam needs to write checks and get away from any decision making at Tennessee. You think he'd have his hands full with the Pilot scandal and the dumpster fire up in Cleveland.

Peyton Manning should have chaired the search committee.

Davenport obviously cracked under the pressure from how this was drug out while waiting until her formal start date.

Any proper search would have 1st established mandatory formal qualifications, as well as properly defined roles for the search committee. Those qualifications would then be posted for any potential applicants so as to narrow the pool. This way you avoid any confusion of DQ'ing a candidate over arbitrary reasons.

This would then filter into a formal interview process, that would be objective and consistent for each candidate. It's obvious ylthe left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing. It was that way before Davenport arrived and appears she was rattled by the good ole boy politicking at play.

I think Blackburn was a perfectly logical candidate. I just think it's a little ironic watching people crap all over certain hires because their previous school wasn't prestigious enough.... and then lose their minds when we don't hire an AD from Chattanooga.

I heard from a very reliable source that C. Anderson and Blackburn had had words or issues with each other. Word was if Blackburn was hired, he would not support the university any more. TIFWIW

I wouldn't blame Peyton if he is unhappy, since New chancellor Beverly Davenport apparently never took his preferred candidate, Phil Fulmer, seriously.

Also it turn out Blackburn never received a formal interview.

The way this went down stinks.

Search for new Tennessee athletic director went quickly once started, Blackburn did not receive formal interview | Times Free Press

How do we know Fulmer was Peyton's preference? Has that been stated by him or just assumed?

I wouldn't blame him either and even expected him to be, but, I've seen or heard nothing that leads me to believe he is.

I'm not losing any sleep over this or constantly Beech and moan but, I do find the way all of this was handled, was a little strange.

That article said Davenport wanted someone with "unwavering integrity", is this a quality that Currie seems to possess? Not insinuating he doesn't, just asking.

Aunt B got what she wanted. I read in places that she was going to be essentially a 'yes woman' and cause no problems in the Athletic Department. I guess she showed us she is the boss. She got her man and that's the end of the discussion.

Currie is a UT man, just like Fulmer and Blackburn. I would tend to lean toward Currie having experience in the Power 5 where Blackburn didn't. I don't think Butch is keen on this hire, as Currie has a history of friction between football coaches and himself.

They're evidently doing cartwheels and backflips in Manhattan, Kansas
