I hope we put a beating on Alabama this week. I hope we beat them so bad that their fans turn on Nick Saban and run him out of town in tar and feathers. That's my hope, that's my dream.

I am unnerved, however, at the up and down mania alternating with depression that marks our season so far. I know we all see with orange colored glasses, but UT beats WKU, and so many think we're going to go undefeated. Then we lose to UCLA, and most want to jump off of a tall building. We hang in tough against Florida and most feel like we can play with anyone in the country...."bring 'em on." Then we barely beat Ohio, and everyone's despondent again. We lose against Auburn and the "can Kiffin get it done" talk starts, then we whoop a very down, no defense Georgia team, and now everyone is up again and sure we're going to beat Bama by 1000 points.

I don't know what will happen Saturday. Maybe my dream will come true, maybe it won't. I guess this post is just a plea for some objectivity on the season as a whole, because I can't stand this week to week "we're great" followed by "we suck" talk.

This will always be the case. The media & internet help to support the extreme cases of any viewpoint. A lot of us moderates who don't get too up or down have just gotten tired of the rabid, thoughtless fanaticism and have either stopped posting or visiting altogether. This board is far better than others, but there will always be some idiot who opens the door to the lions' den and tosses in a wounded calf just to see what happens.

The intelligent, cool, calm, and collected Vol fans are often the more quiet ones.

Just think though.....We were up against GA, had a by week where we would've been down and this week we should be back up!

TN - 23
BAMA - 16

GO VOLS!

My wish (while we are wishing) is that we beat Bama; Bama beats UF in SECCG in a huge smack down; Bama plays Boise St in the BCSCG and gets throttled.

That my friends would be sweet.

One of the Sports radio guys..Cowherd I think... was talking about how young Pete Carroll teams generally start to gel about midseason and then start playing really well.

Kiffin comes from the Carroll tree so, why not us?...

Amen to that, sister! People who looked at this team realistically when Kiffin was hired did not expect this season to be a major improvement on last year. What we did expect to see is evidence of good coaching from the staff, a return of focus and discipline to the players, and a commitment to recruiting the very best players in the country. Even if we beat Bama this weekend, we have several games ahead that could well go down in the Loss column. I wish more Vols fans understood the rock-solid foundation that is being built this year by our coaches, without focusing so much on the ups and downs from Saturday to Saturday. The time to expect wins every week will come, and sooner than many think.

Just because many of the posters here can't stop themselves from overreacting to every win or loss doesn't mean that VolGirl is the one who needs medical help.

Here's some objectivity. A win this weekend means a 8-4 season + bowl. A loss means 7-5 + bowl. As far as CLK's debut, this will go into the books as a huge success and serve notice to the SEC that UT is coming back in a big way.

Bama is always a big game, but its a bigger game for Bama who has NC title hopes. We get to play spoiler and leave nothing on the field.

Bama will be tight with their conservative play call like UF did. We'll be in a good spot to ruin Bama's chance at a title.

UT is playing for nothing; we're going bowling. Bama is playing for everything and you can see the stress mounting on their team based on last week's performance.

I agree that given our remaining schedule, we will more likely than not be bowl eligible when all is said and done, with a decent shot at a mid-level bowl. Just curious, who do you think our loss is, regardless of the Bama outcome?

I think Ole Miss is a toss up, but leans towards Miss.

Like minds... I came in here to post this...

It's Bama Week, and I'm drinking the Kool-Aid.

But we all realize we have to play a perfect game in all three phases to win.

Imperfection in any phase, and I think we all know this could get ugly. It won't be pretty being 3-4, but we've been there before this year, and we've fought our way back!

Manic Depression could be the title to the 2009 DVD.
