So CLK is a liar? Ok.

You do remember that the previous staff was FIRED? Remember how horrible the offense was? Somehow JC got a pass for his performance last year, but when speaking about NS, that's ALL YOU CROMPTONITES HAVE, "Whent aboot the Wiomering gome last yur? He wudnt know bedder." Ever think his poor play in that ONE game was a result of the offense? You mention Stephens one bad game, I’ll raise you EVERY GAME CROMPTON HAS EVER PLAYED IN! How you rons defend this clown is hilarious to me.

Incorrect. coach speak is not lying. Lying is saying that we're going to play EB on offense, then not doing it. Lying is saying Tebow would be a LB. Lying isn't what happens when a coach goes up to the mic and says that the competition was close. You can't go up there and say that there are significant reasons why the backup QB is incapable of playing. If you say that, he's as good as off the team. We lose another QB. Our backup is either a guy who hasn't played D1 football, or a guy who hasn't played football in 4 years.

Stephens was the starter when Fulmer was fired. I don't understand how in the world you are using this as a basis for your argument.

Crompton lost to Florida, UCLA, and Auburn.
Stephens lost to Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, and Wyoming.
Why does Stephens get a pass for 4 losses?

No, I don't. He threw it right at 2 defenders. 1 returned it for a TD. The other went to our 4. I think that was a total result of his passes going to the 2 defenders, who then turned those into points.

Why all the field goals Mr. Malzone? This guy is a POS, ask Houston Nutt. His offense is more gimmick than Florida's. It puts up good numbers, but as sorry as our offense is we were a good bounce away from beating them. I drank too much koolaide leading into this season, but I'm convinced CLK has us heading in the right direction and Dorks like Malzone will soon pay their due!!!!! It's Auburn's head coach that I'm LMAO about, the Defensive Guru Cheesewiz's defense gave up over 400 yds to the Vol's Crompton lead juggernaut of an offense. Maybe now that Warren was asked to move on, our offense will find it's way. GO VOLS AND CLK!!!!!

has used it to win 2 national titles in three years, and auburn is 5-0, and we're on the fast track to obscurity. I'll take a gimmick that wins games any day!

That doesn't matter in Griff's agenda.

He has his head so far up chavis' rectum you can't tell where chavis ends and he begins.

Griff is a disgrace.

Y'know... for at least a little while, I guess I wasn't reading between the lines so much and so I wasn't really catching what some of you guys were saying about Mike Griff...

But that article I just read has shown me the light.

Griff is a Fulmer and Chavis homer of epic proportions (well, maybe not so epic since there seem to be a lot of those homers showing their face on this board NOW...)

If I didn't know any better, I would think I just finished reading an article by an Auburn writer.

Time for you to move on, Mike.

.... and take Bob Kesling with you, wherever you go.

Yet it's ok that Crompton throws it to defenders?

Talent and depth tell it all. We have very little on either side of the ball. We have more talent on the d side of the ball than the o. Both are a few years away.

Malzahn mastered Monte's defense? We were without our starting MLB who was in charge of getting everyone aligned and making sure everyone had the right assignment and against an offense that moves around like that, that's a big deal. We'll see how much Malzahn has "mastered" our defense next time around when we are at full strength and Lane has got his talent if. Do you know anything at all about anything football wise Griff? Why is this guy still allowed to spam our board. I dont see what makes him showing up once a week to spam and then adding nothing else any different from another person linking their side on here.

Interesting article, at least he actually interviewed Malzahn and used Malzahn's own quotes and not heresay.

The better team won, show a little class and give them their kudo's. I think Malzahn is going to get a shot as a HC somewhere soon. He's been successful at Univ of Tulsa, and he looks good at Auburn so far.

Three picks in five games isn't cutting it -- be real.
Ignoring the facts does not make them go away.
The UT offense is not good -- but the defense hasn't been much help in the turnover dept.
I was shocked Saturday night, because the Vols' defensive plan for Florida was brilliant

Griff, do you not realize that there is a reason why we only have 3 picks? Nobody has been throwing at our DBs!

UF didn't, WKU didn't and UCLA didn't. That leaves Ohio who threw all over Vinson and Auburn who had our defense off balance. We also might need to consider that we have terrible CBs who have had little continuity thanks to injuries and suspensions, we have a freshman FS and lost our previous starting FS.

Jeez, I don't know what your obsession is with trying to make Chavis seem like a decent coach compared to Monte Kiffin but stop it. It makes you look extremely stupid and biased.

I concur.........but he will need to keep it up for the rest of the year.

I've given them kudos for winning. They played well. They were well prepared and executed to the T. With that said... they were far from mastering Monte's Defense. There were many other mitigating factors that ended up with the amassing of yards.

The wording in the article:
If the trend doesn't change -- and it still might -- you'd have to wonder if the $2.5 million invested in the defensive coaching staff - which is roughly $1.5 million more than the previous defensive staff made - is paying off.

Is completely asinine. 5 games into the season and we're getting the Fulmer Era sycophants playing "told you so" because we cut Chief?

Are you serious Griff? You're going to pass judgment on this staff after only a year... and you're already stirring the pot after 5 games? I'm thinking you were nothing more than embarrassed for your prediction last week and you're now scorning this staff. And here I was thinking you were a semi-rational journalist.

Chavis is a good D coord and so is Monte.........any team would be lucky to have either coach.

hey griff... how's that blast-the-one-good-thing-the-Vols-have-going and then post-that-blog on VN going for you?

Well, Auburn had 5 completions for ~80 yards to their WRs. They simply didn't attempt to throw their way too much. The CBs had good coverage and I noticed JJ did a pretty good job in not allowing the WRs to exploit gaps in the zone that Kiffin was running.

The dump-off passes to the RBs (14 receptions, 149 yards) are what killed us. You might make a case that pre-snap adjustments weren't made by Frazier that might have been made by Reveiz... but regardless they were wide open on swing passes and that comes down to LBs.

This defense is solid, no big turnovers, save the Florida grab by Berry. The offenses we have played have stayed away from taking deep shots down the middle. I think another important factor at play is our defense being on the field so much. They have to have heavy legs at this point, especially after this past Saturday. If our offense doesn't start to help them out I see more key injuries in our future and lack of production on the defensive side due to fatigue.

You sound like an avid Bama fan. What in the hell are you doing covering the Vols. Griff the Goober...has a nice ring to it.

For the record, a lesser defense would've been walked all over, and the result would've been much, much uglier.
This defense adjusted to Auburn's scheme and shut it down early on...I stated in the 1st qtr that with our offense being so inept, that it would be a long night for the defense....ANY DEFENSE, at ANY PRICE...Goober man. Hey, LOOK-E-HERE, Griff :moon2:

UT gave up 105 of Auburn's 459 total yards in the first quarter....were the Vols tired coming out of the locker room?

Monte's not going to bat 1.000 -- but Ohio had a good plan, and UCLA had a kid making his first road start and there were no picks in that game, either.

I think it's probably tough for Monte to go from being able to work unlimited hours with NFL players to prepare for a game to a 20-hour week.

Give Auburn credit for its plan and execution.

Lane Kiffin said it himself: UT got beat in all three phases of the game

You do realize that Solich is friends with Monte, and has run a similar style defense at Ohio? He went down to Tampa after he was fired from Nebraska, to talk with Monte. Do you think they talked about American Idol? I bet they talked defensive football.

So you don't think Solich has some knowledge of how to beat Monte's D? And Malzahn is a great coach, who dedicates hours to film. His offense is revolutionary, and will be one of the most revered OC's in 15 years. He used Ohio's film to beat Monte.

Not to mention Auburn had UT Defense on the field for 49 plays in the first half. Nearly 20 minutes out of 30.

You'd think a writer would have more reason and logic.

Edit: Basically you can give much credit to Solich for showing teams how to beat Monte. Just as you can give credit to Monte for showing teams how to beat Florida.

The surefire way to beat Monte's defense is having Jonathan Crompton start, and hope he stays in the game the whole time. There's no better strategy than that

Convenient... "yea, he said that.... but uhh, he didn't MEAN it....duhh!!!

My point about Fulmer is that the offense sucked because of his decisions, not NS. Every QB makes bad decisions, including NS. No one is saying NS is light years better, I’m just saying he could be an upgrade and deserves a shot.

Crompton lost to Florida, (a BAD) UCLA, and (a BAD)Auburn.
And looked horrible in every other game he played in too. Remember the 1st play of his return, an INT to VANDY. Also, he only beat UAB and UK, SWEET!

Stephens lost to Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, and Wyoming.

Stephens played well against UGA. Played good against NIU (10/17, 156 yards, 9.2 avg per pass, 1 td, 0 INTS) Played well in a win vs Miss St. NO INTS. Played ok against the #2 team AL, (16/27, 137 yards, 1 td, 0 INTS AGAINST THEIR DEFENSE)

He played poor on the road at S. Carolina but still only had 1 int. And played really poor against Wyoming. No excuse there. But every player has an "uh oh" game. He threw two bad passes that were capitalized on by the defenders. A perfect example of bad luck.

Also, that loss is as much on JC, if not more, as it is on NS. He was in longer if, I’m not mistaken. Those picks were only worth 10 points. Crompton had AMPLE time to bring us back. But he didn't because he's Crompton and he sucks.

Love that. owned.
