Mallett Bombs, Newton Shines

Apparently Mallett made himself look terrible in his interviews. Poor kid, he has got to get his head on straight. He has some serious potential.

Combine focus: Mallett melts, Newton shines - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

Mike Golic said this morning on Mike & Mike that Cam Newton really struggled in the passing drills. Your article that you linked only talks about the interviews. Since it will be more important for Cam Newton to throw more passes in an NFL career than to give great speeches, I would say that's probably going to be more important toward his ultimate draft position.

This thread title is the opposite of the way it went down. Mallett may have wanted to go Derek Anderson on the media during his interviews, but he threw the ball better than anyone...apparently.
I have officially changed my mind on Newton again. He had a poor day accuracy-wise, but what's worse, he blamed it on his receivers. Said that they were slower, smaller college guys, and he wasn't used to that.
He has all the warning signs of either a bust, or a serious locker room problem. I may flip again on him, but for now, I'm praying someone else steps up and shows they're worthy of the #1 pick.

It would suck to have the #1 pick in this draft.

Peterson is pretty much a lock to be a good to great player.

I believe Dareus is going to be one of the best players in this draft.

Neither one is worth the guaranteed money a #1 overall commands though.

Other than those two, it's very much a boom or bust IMO.

He did, but his interviews were a total disaster. That's why I posted the thread. I think we all knew that Mallett could throw the ball better than just about anyone.

Give me the guy that can throw the ball, and I'll have his agent do all his interviews for him.

I agree that Mallett throws well. That's why I disagree that he "bombed" and Newton "shined". Are we just talking about interviews here? Who cares about the media interviews?

It's one workout (and a lot of QB's struggle throwing to unfamiliar WR's). I wouldn't let it change my mind on Newton. Incredible talent and he needs to grow up a little bit. Nothing we didn't already know.

none of these QBs are. I know Carolina fans want a new QB, but the team office would be, well, foolish to try to usher one up 7-10 or so spaces than they're worth...especially when the top 3 picks are typically done as best players available

The teams thinking about drafting him. He made himself look like an immature, arrogant douche. That's not what most teams want leading their team. At least I would think they wouldn't.

Incredible collegiate talent. Decision making, release and accuracy are huge in the NFL. All are enormous question marks for newton. The fact that he's dumber than a herd of camels would be another glaring problem.

This does not seem to be the year of the cerebral QB.

Seems like Mallett had a pretty good day Sunday. Color me impressed.

He had a great day, and from every report I saw, or heard, Mallett is climbing up the draft boards. Like Justin said, I would hate to be picking first in this draft. I really wish Dareus would be around at pick #8, but no way that happens.
