Not sure how you came up with that comparison

Um, because the Atari 2600 represented home console gaming in it's infancy? Just like VR at the home consumer level is still in it's infancy. I didn't think it was a very big stretch.

Edit: Did you think I was comparing commercial success? If so, yeah I can understand why that would confuse you.

They are very different, specifically with price. The Atari 2600 exploded mainly because the price point was so low that most homes could get one. It was an alternative to computer gaming. JMO they are very different and not at all comparable. VR is, however, very comparable to 3D TVs and 4K IMo.

As I already explained, what I was comparing was where the tech was at when each platform was released. Atari 2600 represents home console gaming in its infancy. PSVR represents home VR gaming in IT'S infancy. That's all I was comparing.

Regarding price, you have to remember that the 2600 launched in 1977 for 199.99. When adjusted for inflation that's about 800.00 in today's dollars. The PSVR GT Sport bundle is currently 299.99. Even if you count the cost of the console its tethered to, you still come out cheaper than what you would have paid in 1977 dollars for the 2600. Even games themselves are much cheaper for VR. In 1977 Atari cartridges cost around 39.99 (about 169.00 in today's dollars) . VR games are nowhere near that expensive.

Not gonna argue with you for days, you have your opinion, I have mine. Mine is that VR will not be mainstream like console gaming became and it will go the way of 3D gaming.

Not looking to debate, but I'm upgrading my PC GPU to a GTX 1080 and getting an HTC Vive. There's a VR arcade in southern Indiana that we went to recently. Had my 12 year old's birthday party there. So fun!

Dave and Buster's has a couple of VR gaming machines as well. The Nashville one does anyway.

Didn't know there were places like that. Just found one not to far from me with 3 different systems. I may have to go check them out before diving in with PSVR.

I have been waiting for a decade or 2 for VR to become a household thing. Hope it happens soon. When Oculus was being hyped, i thought it would be the atari 2600 of VR and that in a couple years sony, xbox, everyone would have VR systems consoles that would replace home gaming consoles, then branch out to movies, porn, everything. For whatever reason, that hasnt happened. I guess the tech is still just too new, making a capable system 1000s of dollars thereby making it not a profitable business opportunity foe the big companies. I really hope they get it figured out soon... i believe that when they finally do, it will be a before/after situation like the invention of the television or PCs at home. People will spend big money and spend several hours a day in VR when they can game, take college classes, watch TV and movies, porn, you name it. I am surprised that the big money players in that game arent throwing massive money into RandD for that platform as well as software. Seems like the 1st one to bring a winner to market could make countless billions between hardware, software, licensing, access fees by institutions such as universities, to have immersive classroom experience for lectures, etc...imagine being able to take college courses as if you were sitting in the classroom in VR.. would be amazing.

I actually think the NON gaming applications are what's going to propel VR into the mainstream. For example, I can eventually see an NFL VR Sunday Ticket that let's you virtually sit in every NFL stadium and watch live games as if you were actually there. Same with college football. I can see VR ring side PPV events for boxing, WWE, and UFC. Same with concert events. Plus the potential with travel, education, medical, etc is endless.

Fired up the PS4 and God of War last night for the first time. The transition from xbox controller to playstation wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. The UI is different, seems like a lot more going on, and the pop up notifications are a bit annoying.

The game, though, is amazing so far. I meant to play for an hour and go to bed. 4-5 hours later I finally had to cut it off because it was so late.

I chose performance mode to keep framerate high. I may change to resolution tonight to see how it changes. My guess is since I'm playing on a 1080 projector and not a 4k monitor or TV, keeping framerates high will be preferable.

The game is beautiful, the controls are pretty easy, the story is amazing. No regrets thus far...and I haven't even installed RDR2 or spent the $50 gift card thay came with the console. RIP sleep in the short term.

Thanks to all for the recommendations!
