this upcoming season has all the makings of a do or die year for the Vol's program. Do we rise from the ashes of 05 and take our place alongside UF & LSU or do we stumble and continue the slide into a perennial second tier also ran? Im not just talking about Phil's career, but about the national perception of our program.

I think immediate depth is needed on the OL and the DL (including ends). If the lines do not play well this year, there will be trouble in paradise.

I agree.Pro Coach Fulmer or not, this year IMO is one of the most pivotal years I recall. There is alot riding on this season, especially having a senior qb, provided he stays healthy.A season with more than 2 losses this year is not going to be a good season. This includes all games played.

I agree and I can't wait... its been much too long (6 years in my opinion) since we've really felt like a national power.

A win in Gainesville will almost undoubtably make this season a success.

I think my neighbor's dog was born the last time UT won the SEC. In dog years, that animal would now qualify for Social Security.

i would have to say we will be right in the middle of the east again. no reason to think otherwise.

that would have sucked

Tennessee finally beat Alabama in 1982. I was twelve years old; it was the first time UT had beaten Alabama since I was three months old. I was really sick that weekend with a fever of about 104 or something, and my mom forced me to lie in a bathtub of cool-to-lukewarm water to try to bring the fever down. I listened to John Ward call that game on the radio lying in the bathtub, and I swear when it was over and we had actually won it was like the whole world was a little different. Tennessee just wasn't supposed to beat Alabama. I remember that game more than I remember most of the things about my childhood, and probably at least as well as most of the games that I later actually went to as a UT student.

I understand why the younger fans view the Alabama rivalry as an anachronism, and I can't exactly say that I'm sorry that Alabama has been so toothless for so long that the kids have basically forgotten them. But really, those younger fans are like some seven-year-old Red Sox fans who just started following baseball in 2003 and won the WS the next year. They missed out on a whole lot of what is pretty integral to the experience.

I was at that game and was also 12 yrs old. I can still remember it like it was yesterday. When I was at UT as a student they owned us again. I still wake up in a cold sweat with visions of David Palmer in my head. There was one game (84-92) I cant remember which year (I drank a little bit back then) when they ran the same play the whole game and we couldnt stop it. I remember this bama running back going off tackle for chunks over and over and over again. That was the most painful thing I have ever seen. I dont care how long Bama has been a doormat I will savor every beat down we put on them and I still hate them as much as I ever have.
