With a new athletic director soon to take over, one who will have no ties or loyalty to CBJ, could this be a make or break year for him? Under Butch we've seen improvement from year to year, a surge in recruiting and a return to relevancy. But there are times when he's made more than a few head scratching decisions. Starting Peterman, a redshirt freshman, in the Swamp. Not going for two vs Florida last year. Hiring an old friend, who hadn't coached college football since 2007, to run the offense. There is a lot riding on this year and for Butch with a talent and experience laden roster, his job may be one of those things. I for one want him to succeed and return us to football prominence but should this season not live up to reasonable expectations I wouldn't have a problem with a change in coaches or at least putting out feelers to see who would be interested in the job.

Just like last year, the schedule ends with 5 straight glorified high school teams. Sadly that'll convince enough people he is on the right track even if he loses all 4 games in the Florida through Bama gauntlet.

Should we lose all four of those games, I doubt anyone would have a problem with letting Butch go.

It is for me! Luckily for butch my opinion doesn't matter to anyone that makes those kind of decisions. I want him to do well, but I think Butch is his own worst enemy. Talent is there, no more excuses.

I think the only possible way the Butch's seat would start getting warm is if, and only if we fail to go to a bowl game. then it would be really hot! His contract will still stand. But we should be looking for an improvement for the OC position. Just my personal opinion.

I got eviscerated for saying if we lose 4 games, Butch would be on the Hot Seat. It appears to be a different mood today though.

It's mind-blowing how few people understand this.

I can't stomach another loss to the reptilian herd. That's a make or break game for me personally. Unless that somehow was our only loss for the season.

There will be too many people worried about MUH STABILITY for a change to be made.

The stability thing is no longer an issue. I was one of the people who said he needs enough time to rebuild. He's had enough time that his performance this year would make next year "make or break"

It's my hope that, at this stage in his tenure here and with the talent he has procured, if this season is anything less than representing the SEC East in Atlanta + a big bowl WIN we should thank him for his contribution to building the talent back up, let him go, and make a move for a big time coach.

If Dave Hart were to remain, I wouldn't have much hope for that, even if we were to go 0-4 from FL-AL. But, if we end up with a good AD replacing Hart, I have hope that he'd take that opportunity to make the change.

Or we could settle for perpetual 8-4 type seasons. Just enough to squeak by but always leaves you unsatisfied. Four years is enough to prove whether or not you can make the cut.

And this is his fourth year. So I agree. I'm just poking fun at the same people who've been wanting him gone since he got here. Whether anyone wants to admit it or not he's done a lot of good.

I agree with you 100%. We got the player's time to do something with it.

He has done a lot of good. Cleaning up after Dooley was no easy task. But being four years in and still having question marks doesn't bode well for him. By the end of this season we should no whether or not he'll be the coach long term.

If Tennessee goes 10-3 after a Bowl Game Butch will be sitting on a very Cool Seat

Looking at the record only, yes. Looking at who they would have lost to to get to 3 losses then you have to ask yourself..."Is this the ceiling?"

Barring a complete meltdown, Butch isn't going anywhere after this season. UT can't afford it.

I wouldn't call myself a nega, but if we lose the Florida game this year with all the talent we have, CBJ should be shown the door as soon as the clock strikes zero
