Major reason Kirby’s scheme has been successful

We have lost primarily because they had better players. The gap has closed considerably and we're close enough now that this years game will come down to turnovers, special teams, and QB PLAY! Looking at last years game we played their run game pretty well and out rushed them 146-106. But Beck way outplayed Nico. 347 passing yards to 167 and a QBR of 97.7 to 72.3. Still we got off to a fast start and led 10-0. Dawgs came back to tie it up at half on last second FG, 17 all. Then our offense had another scoreless half and left the D out to dry. Differences this year are, if we get off to a good start and take a lead, Georgia will hear it from Neyland. Joey can make plays Nico couldn't. This year they got the inexperienced QB. If he couldn't light up the cupcakes they've played so far, don't see him killing us like Beck did last year. Tight defensive ball game, Vols 24-17. GBO

I am willing to bet my retirement that Kirby is going to throw the ball all over the field.Didn't pass much the first two games-he had no need to.Cut off the receivers from getting to the ball and let's see if the red clay hounds can actually run it over us all afternoon.Don't let those howling asses breathe.

It’s because they blow up the LOS and sit on routes. They won’t sit back in 2 deep zone 25 yards off on 3rd and 8. They send 5 and sit on the sticks with safety help over the top.

Yep.. Joey will have to take off some this game, he won't have the time he's had back there the first two games. I don't think we've shown everything though. Hopefully they have something to maybe get a cheap score or two, they're going to need it i'm afraid. Going to have to play a clean game and not give them anything cheap, they don't really need the help.

No, Kirby is an elite defensive coach. In 2022 for example, he shut us down when Saban and Alabama, who on paper had as much or more talent didn't. Yes, they've had great players, but great players do not GUARANTEE performance. It's like Michael Jordan had tremendous talent, but what made Jordan what he became, was having not only that talent, but also the highest level of work ethic and competitive spirit. He had both. Defensively UGA has had both under Kirby, they have had great talent, but also great schemes, motivation. Kirby needs someone to handle the offense though, having Todd Monken was gold for him. I think Bobo is better than most people give him credit for, but he's not Monken, that's where they have took a step back.
True…but Kirby did get us later in the season. He made the strategic decision to go to a combo secondary so our big play guys - especially Hyatt - didn’t get lined up against someone who couldn’t cover them. And then of course as the original poster pointed out, he had elite DBs who couldn’t cover press cover all over the field.

in the Bama game in 2022, their D lost Hyatt several times because of the up tempo and the receivers periodically rotating with each other. In 2022 we were very effective at both tempo and subtle alignment changes with the receivers. My favorite example was against Kentucky. We’re going 90 mph with tempo, make a first down or two then setup quickly for the next play. In that one second before the snap their LB looks up and realizes he’s covering Hyatt…I swear I head him cuss! Seconds later it was a TD…

Kirby definitely did better than Saban against us in 2022

He saw the tape on what we did to Alabama. Which was the same defense. Georgia had better talent than Alabama allover the defense tho. That also made a difference.

Tennessee actually ran the ball decent against them last year. It was the splash plays that are missing. You're not going to nickel and dime them down the field for 12-14 play drives. That favors Kirby and his defense. Meanwhile they've brutalized Tennessee on offense with the stuff over the middle and not getting off the field on 3rd down.. You get them in 3rd and long you got to get off the field. With that type of ball control you're not going to get a lot of possessions anyway.
We didn't have any touchdown passes or any sacks against them last year. Both must change this year. We need several of each.

Their TEs and RBs will abuse our LB corp. I'm also thinking our OL will be exposed.

I think Joey will see pressure this game like he hasn't experienced yet. How he responds may determine if they have a chance or not. If Tennessee allows UGA to abuse them over the middle again in this game then that's coaching malpractice. I'm more worried about them just lining up and running right up the middle.. The dumpoffs to the Backs could also be problematic. I think we're going to have to get this game in the 30's. Anything under that probably favors Georgia.

This very well could prove true, but it’s possible that our OL could cause some big issues for us. Stockton has seen big time game pressure, but he has never played in an environment even close to what he will see tomorrow. Our OL has injuries and quite honestly has struggled. AP’s front got after Stockton pretty well, and that shouldn’t have happened. AP isn’t a bad team, but they don’t have the SEC defensive front you guys have. Who knows honestly??? We shall see tmw, like I’ve said before, I’m excited and also nervous!

They've seen the same movie since Heupel took charge and they've not adjusted yet. Either the coaches don't have the answer or it's the talent gap. Until proven otherwise, I'm expecting the same outcome as in previous seasons.

UGA has always been very handsy. Will be again Saturday. Saban won probably 2 titles with Smart as DC doing just that. Most other teams would of been flagged. Smart's UGA teams get away with it also. It's taught..
Hope the staff isn't expecting anything different this year. Maybe our young WRs are more physical and they can make the physical plays needed against teams like UGA? Hope so.

Other than Brazzel Tennessee has some pretty big boys. I'd say Heupel has recruited for the way they play defense.

Austin Peay gave us hell either last year or the year before. They got some dudes.

They might have the size, but do they have the drive? No pun intended, but it's not the size of the dog, it's the size of the fight in the dog that counts. Let's see how physical our wide receivers are on Saturday.

Well. Hand fight with them . Most of the time it will go the receivers way. They're big enough to body up on them. I'd make them call a flag if i were the receiver if its' like it's been over the years. UGA has just bullied them. Fix that.

uga gets away with DBs holding on for dear life to WRs at the LOS worse that Bama used to get away with OGs and OTs basically tackling opposing DL. It's a little sickening.

That said, it will be a tough game to win.

But I will just never understand the need for some of us in here to type paragraph after paragraph praising uga. You never see that with Bama, LSU, etc or any other solid program we play. I mean, if it makes you happy, have at it, but why expend the effort?

They get away with a lot of holding it's the way they play. It's taught and the refs don't want to call it every play, so they get away with it a lot.
