He's totally dead to me and should be to everyone else too.

We have too much to overcome this season and don't need more drama and distractions.

It may be best for Hurd, but not for the Vols, unless he completely humbles himself agrees to come back as a walk on who must earn the trust of his coaches and teammates and his snaps on the field. That's the only way he should be allowed to come back imho.

I assume that the only place he could play this fall, would be at UT.

Is there another scenario where he wouldn't have to sit out a year...........except Canada?

Butch was just quoted as saying that he would tailor his offense and defense to the players he has on hand.

I have questioned a fair number of Butch's in game decisions, but one thing I must concede is that he has consistently recruited to Tennessee young men of high character, with little in the way of off-field issues.

Redemption is perhaps the greatest of lessons Butch could teach these Champions of Life.

Would it have been better if Butch ran him off and he wanted to come back? Fulmer got fired and was about to come back with great acclaim.

If Butch ran him off would it make a difference to get a second chance instead of him leaving on his own? We hear all the time from coaches say, "he cleaned his act up and we are about second chances."
I'm about second chances for non violent cases, especially in case where a kid was getting bad advice from a parent. Just saying don't be the first to throw a stone. The kid will never play here again and that's okay, but sometimes the shoe's on your feet doesn't fit someone else's. I've coached jr varsity sports for 12 years. I've had a few kids get mad quit and in a few days they call back and want to play. Do I not give the kid a second chance? I always do with the stipulation a apology to the team and coaches if they missed a game or practice. If they did not it was between me and the player. GoVols! !!

Count all the carries after the stupid fumble at GA, add one, and that's how many chances he got. And that's making the terrible assumption that everything was copacetic before then.

Here's the thing, your example is they came back in a few days asking to return, this kid shopped himself around and found no takers.

There's a big difference there, this seems like someone who got some bad advice to go on top of his frustrations, and instead of being a man about it, he acted like a 12 y/o and took his ball and went to find "better friends".

He'd have been better off just toughing out the year and declaring for the draft, who knows he might have had an impressive combine showing and that would've helped him out more than what he did.

He has been getting bad advice, he has been told how great he was at a early age. His mother is doing him no favors, it's a drama world with her and if her son truly wanted back on the team you would think the mother would keep her mouth shut instead of putting down one of our best players. I wish Hurd well, maybe he can find someone willing to take a chance on him. He needs to tell his mom to just STOP with the insults toward former players she is doing him no favors. GBO!!!!

Who really knows what exactly went down? What were the forces that made him quit and in the manner he did?

Was it because he felt entitled and didn't like something? Because he became worried about his health? Was it because Jones lied about running the I formation and he thought this was the best route for his future?

Or, was it a combination of things?

Theres 11 players on the field. Doing what you wanted (I formation) would've only benefited one of those 11 (in your opinion, because I don't think it would've benefited anyone) and at the expense of your best player (Dobbs).

I agree 1000%! If I was his coach or if most of us were his parents this is what we we would have told him and made him understand the consistencies and wouldn't let him make a huge mistake and quit, but his parents didn't and that's my point. They were feeding the ego and to boost his parents guidence or lack there of, CBJ may have led him a bill of goods multiple times and it supported the bad advice from parents. Who knows the entire story but a second chance for non violent act for the most part a good kid cannot be bad thing. JMO, GoVols!

What if Hurd called a press conf, explained why he did it, admitted he was wrong, and asked teammates and UT fans to forgive him?
