Kanye is good, wayne just has a different style, and i guess you with love or hate ross.

Kanye's stuff is completely weak. His flow is terrible, his similes (and that's all he uses) are usually stretching it, and his writing ranges from empty pretentiousness to downright stupid. That said, he works with the best producers in rap and hip-hop, and the music is usually outstanding. But as a rapper, he flat-out sucks.

Re: Wayne, I'm leaving everything involving Hot Boys out. That stuff was usually pretty good. On his own, his flow is usually mediocre, sometimes good. He's been getting better. He knows how to create a catchy hook line. But when it comes to lyrical content, he's the rap equivalent of Brittney Spears, and musically he treads absolutely no new territory, he has never broken new ground on anything aside from his tattoos, his tone of voice and a catchy peak perched on a mountain of completely whack ****.

And I listen to Ross all the time, Port of Miami and Bigger Than Rap are great to drive to when you have a subwoofer. I would make a similar analysis to Wayne, but it seems lately like Ross is budding into a halfway decent rapper.

When it comes to mainstream stuff, the producers are the stars, not the rappers. It's the music, the hooks and the beat that make a top 40 hit, some presentable clown on the mic completes the packaging for the billboard charts.

When it comes to guys like Lupe, Del, others that have been mentioned in this thread on the mic, dudes like the three I mentioned last post couldn't hold their jock. They are the varsity, these clowns that are always in the top 40 and top radio play lists are JV. But here the varsity guys don't get millions from major labels for production. Rap and hip-hop that isn't about sex, drugs or violence usually doesn't make as much money.

Correction...West IS the best producer in hip/hop, remember that he is the one making the music.

He can be a good at times, songs like "2 Words" show this. He is very simplistic though. His genius is his originality and his production.

cant wait for lasers.

i hope its not to mainstream though. Atlantic (record company) is probably making him "dumb it down"

As with most rap, there are many multiple producers. But yes, kanye is an outstanding musician but IMO a terrible rapper. That's the best way I can put it.

He isn't terrible...he just isn't an elite emcee, he can be very clever at times...I would say overall his skill is average on the mic.

Production is out of sight, just got his new album and I think it is amazing and that is on first listen.

Kanye is a mad genius.

Yeah, when compared to guys rapping on public access, he's mediocre. When it comes to major label artists, he's well.

He is much better than you are giving him credit for, mediocore rappers could never do "Diamonds". The remix with him and J, he more than holds his own with J.

First off, that's one of the more heavily sampled songs he's made, but the beat is pretty good. Music is decent overall.

However, the song, presentation and video clearly start off like it's a message about the origin of blood diamonds... Then he doesn't mention a single word of it. Not once. He goes on about the same **** he always raps about, primarily his collection of haters, his status, name-dropping Vibe Magazine (interchangeable with the Source Awards, or any chart-topping singles he's had with other artists), etc. On top of all that, he's going at a quick tempo but the rythm to his rhyme scheme is very simple 8th note stuff with minor changes, if any, in syncopation.

Again, he's a solid to great producer, but leaves a lot to be desired on the mic.
