Lunardi sez ...

Call me crazy, but not all No. 1 and No. 2 seeds are surviving into the second weekend. Tennessee appears vulnerable to me, and the run-and-gun South Alabama Jaguars have the firepower and site (Birmingham) to pull a huge upset. The Jags play on, 75-70.

OK, your crazy.

experts.

That's indisputable evidence that ESPN hates Tennessee. A logical argument can not be made to the contrary.

Isn't Mobile like 4 hours away from Birmingham?

Yes, it is. According to Mapquest Knoxville is 257 mi worth of driving to Birmingham, while Mobile is 258.

Ha, take that Lunardi

In my brackets, I have USA to the Sweet 16 but its basically the wise guy pick right now. I read yesterday that its a four hour drive from their campus to the tournament site. I just don't think they pack the place with enough people to make that huge a difference.

South Alabama has a four-point home win over Mississippi State. They lost by three points at Ole Miss and in double overtime by three points at Vanderbilt. Including a season sweep of Western Kentucky, USA is 3-2 against top-50 RPI teams.

So they are good, but not great.

I am torn.

South Alabama over Tennessee is a sucker bet. Don't buy the hype.

Vols will roll them by 15.

If UT had been playing in the last few games at even 90 percent of where they were at the time of the Memphis game, it would be a no brainer. But it just feels like, in watching them, that something is amiss. Whether its intensity or lackadaisical defense or just having peaked 3 weeks early, they have not looked like themselves. Almsot seems like they are wound too tight, not having fun.

I don't know, probably imagining it. The other teams had all ratcheted it up in desperation to make the toruney and UT could save that extra gear.

I have no problem with our effort on offense, but I agree that UT's defense needs to be ratcheted up.

I think it is accepted that in the NBA the top teams generally coast on in at the end. The teams struggling to make it or get a certain seed will go to another gear.

Them, when the playoffs are in full swing, everyone goes up a notch or two. That may be what is going on with UT.

You are overthinking this way too much. 8 days before the SECT, the Vols destroyed USC by 30. Yeah, they're really tanking.

UT needs to realize that we can't do that, but I think there was a "sigh of relief" when we won the SEC reg season outright. Unfortunately, it's sometimes harder to turn that switch on that some may think. It seems that Florida did the same last year but flipped the switch in time for the SEC tourney.

I don't have a bracket. I don't care about the NIT. It is painful to even watch them or coverage because the discussion will all be about how the school won btb championships and has new players with talent but without experience or the right attitude, yada yada yada.

I'm so over this year.

I don't know about that now, a lot of the coverage might be about how Billy won't even let the team wear school colors during practice because they haven't worked hard enough to deserve it. I'm all for motivantial tactics and maybe he will be proven to be a master motivator when next year rolls around, but he has come across as a bit of a jackass watching this whole thing unfold. Maybe that's just me though.
