"Tiger Talk" Radio down here in Baton Rouge was discussing an interesting topic on Friday afternoon. They were discussing the fact that if Les Miles does not win significantly this year, meaning like 10+ games, he will be fired. They went on to discuss that he made a huge mistake by retaining Gary Crowton this year and it will probably cost him his job. Then, of course, the "replacement coach" talk started to heat up with three options being discussed. Jack Del Rio, being that his wife is from Baton Rouge. The second coach they discussed was Harbaugh from Stanford. The last, and most interesting coach they discussed was none other than DEREK DOOLEY. I could not believe that. They had numerous people calling in stating how they would love to have him as Head Coach and that he was the most realistic option. One of the hosts even went as far as saying that LSU was the only school that Dooley would leave Tennessee for and that he would be a real possibility if and when a coaching search begins. What do you guys think about this? I just thought this was pretty interesting.

I know he is loved in that area, but if we got burned by a coach two years in a row, I would think that Mike Hamilton would need to go into hiding. CDD seems to be a more respectable person than Kiffin, so I doubt he'd leave, but I've been surprised before.

no chance. not with the circumstances around his hire in the wake of Kiffin. the timing couldn't be better for us in bringing him in this year. Les Miles could blow it this year, but i am one of the few who think it unlikely. if he was gone this past year, he very well could be on the home side in Baton Rouge

The LSU job is no better a gig than Tennessee. It would be a lateral move for Dooley.

Why would CDD leave in the first place? I don't understand. Is there a tie he has in Louisiana other than 3 years at La Tech? LSU is not a better job than UT.

Dooley coached at LSU under Saban when they won a NC.

The only tie he has down here, outside of LA Tech, was him being the recruiting coordinator at LSU under Saban. I do not know what it is but these people freaking love Derek Dooley down here. It is crazy. All of my LSU buddies are always telling me how they are going to steal him away from us. The resounding thought in my mind was kind of like Lane Kiffin. What has he done on the field? I mean realistically. Whatever it is, Derek Dooley's name continues to pop up.

Except Louisiana produces good D-1 talent (and you're the only good team there), Texas is right beside Louisiana, and the only consistent West winner you have to play is Bama. If I had no ties or bias, I would go to LSU over UT.

I knew that I just didn't even think about it for some reason. I still don't think that would be enough to get him. Are there any personal ties though?

Look, Les Miles ain't that good, and I know that. But unless he doesn't go to a bowl game, I don't see how you can fire a coach that won a national title a couple years ago.

By the way, the other two candidates are not goin down to LSU.

1) Del Rio is a pro coach. Even if Jax fires him, he'll get another NFL job soon.

2) Harbaugh is licking his chops at the chance for the Michigan job. Rodriguez has to win a minimum of 8 games this year or he's gone. And their #1 candidate is Harbaugh. That's why Hamilton had no chance of bringing him here.

LSU would have to pay $4 million just to take Dooley and then an additional $2 million for his salary.

Realistically, I don't think Dooley is going anywhere for a long time. He was raised better than Kiffin IMO.

As stupid as Les Brains is, any AD who would fire him 3 years removed from a national title to hire Dooley deserves to make no more than minimum wage.

I love that reach. Because Kiffin took a better job, Dooley was raised better. That's high comedy. You remember that if UGA fires Ritch within a couple years and they go after Dooley.

It is no different than us wanting Fulmer's head after the 2001 season. We had alot of talent that year and underachieved and continued to spiral downward. The fans down here absolutely do not like Les Miles. LSU is loaded with talent. Les Miles is an average coach. At best! Les Miles won that NC with Saban's recruits, not his. That is the big argument down here. Miles has continued to recruit relatively well but he has not developed the talent well at all. If I was an offensive recruit from LA I would not go to LSU I can tell you that. Crowton has made a mess of that offense. The chances of DD leaving for LSU if Miles gets fired may seem far fetched but don't think it is not a real possibility.

I stopped reading after this. That has to be one of the five dumbest things I've ever read.

And if Dooley leaves for LSU, awesome. We can get a hell of a better coach.

Most everybody around here agrees with the Tiger fans assesments of Miles. He makes absurd decisions constantly during games. I can't see him surviving at LSU for another couple of years without a national title (and I don't see his teams doing that)

Volnation, the only website where Tennessee has hired the worst coach in the history of the SEC, yet two premier programs (Georgia and LSU) are going to hire him this next off season before he has won a game... This is why I love this place...

I've heard of creative writing but it seems you have mastered creative reading.

And dont forget that Les Miles made some pretty gutsy calls that were questionably stupid during that NC season. He just got lucky. Especially against Auburn that year.
