I live in Upstate SC and he is a god around here among Clemson fans. Whatever he says goes. Whatever the athletic dept wants, the university does. His “golly gee shucks” demeanor and clever sayings is just a front. Their players are Teflon and everybody around here knows it. They haven’t had the success since the preacher at Newspring had his fall from grace, ironically, but they can back into the playoffs each year.
I’m not saying they’re the only ones like that by any reason, but I’ve been around for half a century and used to be a Clemson fan until the athletic department under he and Bowden got here.
