Lovie Smith and Ron Zook

Ron Zook apparently enjoyed his stay in Knoxville so much that he had Jack Sells go to a Kinko's and fax our playbook to him.

When was Lovie Smith here, I didn't know about that one... I'm guessing during Johnny's tenure. Johnny definitely had a knack for hiring assistant coaches with potential.

I have probably mentioned this before, but a friend of mine was the Kinkos employee who figured out what was going on and called the athletic department.

No way. Seriously?

Thats exactly what I was going to post....The year Spurrier took over at Florida, Zook went with him...from what I remember there was a rumor that he faxed or took the UT Playbooks with him to Florida...Dont know if it was true or not...but i do remember the media talking about it....

I was having a discussion with my boss at the office the other day about the OC search and different coaching jobs around the country. He is from Miami and played at Oklahoma State, so he has a pretty good knowledge of the game. He was talking (bragging a little) about Miami's coaching history with Schnellenberger, Jimmy Johnson, Butch Davis, Coker, Tuberville, Shannon, etc. but he was shocked at the depth of Tennessee's "Coaching Tree" when I started runnning off our names:

Lynn Amedee
Joe Avezzano
Kippy Brown
Dom Capers
Joey Clinkscales (candidate for Miami Dolphins GM Job)
Bobby Dodd
Doug Dickey
Rodney Garner
Jay Graham
Walt Harris
Dale Jones
Larry Lacewell
Larry Marmie
Doug Marrone
Andy McCollum
Raliegh McKenzie
Steve Pederson
Kevin Ramsey
Al Saunders
Lovie Smith
Kevin Steele
Tommy West
Bowden Wyatt
Ron Zook

No kidding. He has kept some news clippings of when it first happened that mentioned him by name.

Him telling the story is pretty funny. He said that Sells filled out the cover sheet very explicitly.

To: Ron Zook
Organization: University of Florida athletic department

He then handed it to my friend to fax. He said he got a few pages into it and realized something was up.

He called the athletic department and told them what was going on and the next thing he knew, he was talking to Fulmer (who was OC then). He started quizzing him on some of the plays to see if it was a hoax and when it became apparent that it was not he was told not to go anywhere. They were sending someone over.

I assume the whole book never made it correct?

I am honestly not sure how far into it he got before he decided to call.
That would be a strange feeling to look down and see that book.
I think I would keep it behind the counter and fight him before I gave it back.
