After watching the link, I'm sold. Kid is deadly accurate. Glad AboveAllNations is not on our coaching staff.

Rod Wilkes was spotted @ Tom Black Track running wind sprints yesterday.
Shirtless.
Fresh "Riley Lovingood" tat covering his back.

Game respect game.

*seriously though, can't underestimate importance of special teams in the big play world of the SEC.

I think AboveAllNations is undervaluing the position but at the same time, IDK that I'm happy about using an initial counter on an "elite long snapper" when we have so many needs elsewhere. Kid seems like a class act though and I'm sure he will be worth a scholarship, I just hate if he counts towards the 25 limit on this class.

The Lovingood family has had quite a hard year.

Wish on the best for Riley and his family.

yes they have, David Landrith was quite the pastor. I am a member of Hendersonville First Baptist, but Longhollow was (IS) an awesome place of worship. I do not know Riley, but I do know his DAD and I suspect that Riley is a positive influence in the locker room

Can't over look the importance of special teams, especially punting and particuallry a dependable long snapper to get out of our endzone safely and to get solid snaps to flip the field for our D, very important.

VN has been around for awhile and I suspect, outside the recruit thread, this the first thread dedicated to a long snapper.

I'm sure he's a nice kid, but no long snapper deserves a scholarship.

I'm calling BS on this one. Wind runs away from Rod Wilks whenever he steps onto the track. :loco:

If hatred for Vandy is all that is required, then I can get another four years......

Wrong.
I seem to remember about 3 times that The Gators blocked punts of ours in recent years. At least once that was a game changer. It would have been nice to have ended that streak long ago. With a deep snapper like Lovingood that punt is never blocked and the Vols win. Worth a scholarship in my book any day.

Don't let the 2star fool you, its the most Rivals, Scout, etc give deep snappers. Normally they don't get any stars so the fact that Riley Lovingood rates 2 stars should tell you something. The kid is a snapping machine and is rated as the top deep snapper in the country by several who judge them.. His snaps are precise lase up bullets that average almost a half second faster than the average punt snap. (that's about a 4 or 5 yard difference for someone trying to block that punt. Butch wants the best and when the best deep snapper in America is in his own backyard, he had to get him.. Auburn, Ga, and others were all offering. Add to that that Riley is a lifelong Vol, who really dislikes Vandy, and he is a class act, the kind who will be an asset to the team and the lockeroom. Kid practices his snaps like a pro golfer practices his swings..

Thanks dad.

Makes me remember Spencer Riley and his smashmouth play on the o-line. Hope Riley can add to the Riley Vol legacy..HA!!

What I think is funny how people think a long snapper doesn't deserve a scholarship on a 85 man roster. Meanwhile NFL teams with only a 53 man roster pay for the services of a long snapper. Get the kid the papers and a pen please.

Do I like Lovingood as a long snapper? Sure. Do I like any long snapper better than Sheriron Jones, Bryce Love, Ryan Newsome, Pat Allen, Tyree St. Louis, or any of those elite 2016 prospects we're after? No. Save Lovingood's scholarship for somebody we actually need and find a preferred walk on to long snap from one of the hundreds of kids who can also do the job.

Did our current LS come in on scholarship?

No, and he is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you will get next

He seems pretty consistent to me. The best long snappers are the ones you don't here about and I have no idea what our long snappers name is. That's a good thing.

After getting burned by Horky last year I'm sure the staff has to make sure we get our guy this year even if it means putting him on scholly. I believe OK offered Horky a scholly on signing day last year and he flipped to them at the last second. Can't let that happen again.

Senior stats not listed but saw on Twitter sometime this week and very impressive. Matt has done a fantastic job for us the last two years.

We don't offer him a scholarship another school probably will. Best to lock him in since he is a legacy, true Vol fan, best at his position and a position of need in the future.

Remember this post after some non scholarship long snapper sails it over the kickers head. This position requires a special skill and is one of the least appreciated positions in college football. The pro teams already know the value of a long snapper. I think Riley certainly deserves a scholarship.
