I think it depends on who he surrounded himself with. Players with the Raiders apparently loved him. Granted they are adults, but I think college kids would like the guy. Idk how he’d like them tho

Gruden’s appeal was that everyone wanted to play for a former NFL coach to increase their chances of making it to the NFL.

Nick Saban was the coach to set that off upon returning from Miami, along with another such as Steve Spurrier. I remember thinking “if only we could get a Super Bowl winning coach to come to UT, we might regain momentum from Alabama”.. That doesn’t seem to be the top priority for recruits now. Even the great Bill Belichick is struggling to create a buzz. I am afraid Gruden missed the best chance he’ll ever have to explode upon the college football scene.

Another trip down memory lane: USC, Florida, and Miami had everyone thinking kids just wanted to play football near the beaches, prior to Nick Saban’s success at Alabama.

Kiffin is only a bad choice for us due to the history. He’d be a good choice at most places now.

Gruden I was really on board with in 2017, now, I don’t love the fit. With Heupel elevating the program, were he to leave, I think we should be in a position where we can get a fairly proven commodity at the college level.

I don't feel Kiffin is as good as most here seem to think. They always say, "Look what he's doing at Ole Miss" but the NIL era means anywhere with enough money can do okay and Ole Miss spent pretty well for a couple of years. Kiffin isn't a BAD coach but I just think he's overrated. I don't think he'd give us any better chance to win than Coach Heupel.

Gruden is just keeping his name out there in the media with his talk. He'll get a pro job perhaps but he's not known anymore in college and I'll bet lots of young players have no idea who he was back in the day. He's past tense.

He had his opportunity to come to Rocky Top. He played with everyone to his own benefit. I wish him the best, but I'm enjoying the Heup.

One season of a barely mobile, decrepit Brad Johnson playing absolutely out of his mind does not a good coach make.

As evidenced by the absolute septic tank (despite Monte Kiffin's best efforts) that team became until they thankfully fired Chuckles.

And then again with Las Vegas.

Why some drooling idiots still give this stain a second thought is beyond me. Dude sucks out loud as a head coach, which is exactly why I'm hoping Bama falls for his BS and fires DeBoer. Easy win every year.
