Wow. He's going on and on about it. Other commentator "are you blaming it on the refs?" Holtz said "I never blame it on the refs, but yes it was their fault."

Just agreed with Dooley. said that we were not given ample time to adjust to LSU's substitution. said that it is a blatant rule break and the ref should have pointed this out.

Mark May blamed the coaching staff, Wilcox and Dooley alike.

I have mixed feelings. May is right, but if it was a rule violation then it shouldve been enforced.

Thoughts?

edit: Mods, i know there is already 49577 threads about this topic. i only made a new one because Holtz was talking about it. merge if necessary.

I don't understand how we weren't given ample time....all 13 players ran onto the field and set. If they were trying to get off, ok, but they weren't.

Was about to start a thread called Hell has Frozen Over.

No matter how this turns out, theres going to be an asterisk by this win for a while, at least in the minds of people who matter. Good for us.

Dooley wont win the appeal if he does go through with it, but I dont blame him for trying (because all 13 were set there WAS adequate time). GBO

I don't know the rule, but the people giving up on dooley, the other coaches, and players this early is what is sad to me.

If you watch the replay, the ref did stand over the ball until we got our 13 players on the field. After he saw us make a change he moved.

Coaching mistake.

They didn't get off because there was chaos and confusion due to the referee inadequately doing his job.

Holtz mentioned a good point. its the last "hectic" seconds. and as fans, we were going crazy, we can only imagine what they players were thinking in all that noise. im not sure they knew exactly what was going on.

think about it...if LSU hadnt subed, would we?

Holtz is right, the confusion only occurred because Tennessee was essentially forced to adequately substitute in about a 5 second window, when they should have had all the time required to make appropriate substitutions. If you watch the replay the ref is NO WHERE NEAR the football when LSU makes the substitution. It's not like this is the first time SEC refs have made horrendous errors in refereeing a game.

If the appropriate rules were followed by the refs LSU would be forced to burn a down to substitute by snapping the ball and spiking it to stop the clock, and UT would have then been allowed to substitute. The rules were not followed, LSU would not have been able to make the final snap if the rules were followed.

Bottom line, UT lost and it's just one of a few reasons, but it's sickening to have dramatic ref involvement with the phantom pass interference on Teague in the end zone and then the lack of allowing the defense to substitute. UT isn't good enough to beat the refs and LSU.

yeah we shouldn't of taken on subs anyway we play linebackers on the fastest receivers ANYWAY:) It was just a mental error by both players and coaches but we we have to beat UGA!!!!!!!!!!:):dance2::rock::)

Losing sucks so much worse when you win and then find out you didn't! ( and how many times does THAT happen!) I am holding on to the hope that maybe the collective "they" will talk about us more after this win/oops loss. This unfortunate story is better for TV than an upset and, in the end, might be better for us....but it is still a really hard pill to swallow!

I agreed with Dooley until I saw ESPN and heard Lou Holtz agree with him. Now I am sure Dooley is wrong. I don't know how but he must be.
