I've always been one to believe in an upset, but this year going into the Bama I'd rather Tennessee play to get the game over than beat themselves up more and hope to win.
I think Tennessee should sit as many starters as they can and run the clock as much as possible vs Bama. Give our guys time to heal up this week and next. Then come out and beat Kentucky with a stronger roster.
Our guys have given their all for Tennessee so far this year, but the truth is the lack of depth will start to show if they don't heal up.
This may be a losers mentality which I hate or maybe I'm just being a realist.

That’s what the off week is for. Always play to win.

I would throw the kitchen sink at them and see what happens with all my healthy players. If things get out of hand, I'd then treat it like a blowout should be treated by getting the younger guys some needed experience.

Unless things got crazy early and it looked (somehow) as Tennessee might have a chance…….I’d definitely slow the game down.

Tennessee’s slow game needs work……real bad. They may need to count on it to win them a game……and it doesn’t look pretty right now.

But I ain’t no coach……..and even peeweers would be hard pressed to listen to me.

This is definitely a loser mentality. Hell NO! While Alabama is good, this is the weakest team they've fielded in years, and this is the best team UT has fielded in several years. Never concede anything.

I would not play Evans, either of the Mays brothers (even if they are healthy) or Hooker if he were healthy. Save these guys. Because with them we beat UK and go 7-5.

I think you give the starters a chance in the first half to play for the win, but if it gets out of control, you pull them in the second half and move on.

BVS = Loser mentality. Butch's guys would roll over when they got down and quit. This team plays for one another and the staff. They'll make plays against Bama and who knows it could be like '09 and we almost get them. You'll never know if you don't put in the work. This team knows they were close in the losses this year and will pay dividends down the stretch and into next season.

They should go down there with a game plan design to win the damn game. That being said, I believe Heupel is a realist. If the VOLS can be competitive in the first half, there's no reason not to make adjustments and come out battling in the 2nd half. At some point when the outcome is evident, we need to preserve ourselves. Because we have a 2 week break until UK, we have some options. Hypothetically, if we are within 2 scores going into the 4th quarter we must play to win. Just MHO

Playing Bama not to win makes me want to puke. Go out there and give it 100%. If there’s a price to pay down the road, then the price must be paid.

Let the boys play. They may win, but if not they will learn by playing a good team.

How are your starters going to grasp what excellence is, if you take them out of the big games against excellent players? Playing Alabama at Alabama in the modern college era is the highest challenge in college football. If you aren't ready for that, you won't ever be ready to win. Not to mention what you're saying to your players. "Oh, this one's too hard, so we're not going to seriously gameplan for this one, just take it easy and we'll run out the clock." I'm sure there are personnel decisions made to protect a team's season or its players, but I don't think Tennessee can just roll out the basic package and cry uncle on the biggest rivalry game on the books.
