Looks like Oregon is a 13.5 pt favorite over U.T.

Neyland atmosphere, jet lag, Wilcox D with talent, Dooley discipline.
I'll take that bet.
Ducks will load the box with an undersized defense to stop the run.
Stocker will find his hands.
Early pics by TN will decide this game.
Easy win for Big Orange.

It's posts like these that destroy the credibility of those of us who actually know a thing or two about football on this board.

Can Tennessee win? Sure. Will it be easy? Hell no.

I'm with emain on this one. The only way it gets more annoying than "We play better as the underdogs" would be if the person saying it added the woo from Rocky Top to the end of it. :)
We play better as underdogs because ESPN hates us, IMO.

Simms has to be more accurate. If he isn't the Ducks will make us pay and they will blow us out.
Ducks struggle early in seasons. Purdue has nearly beat them twice.
Weather is supposed to be high 80's with thunderstorms, thats good for us.
Ducks don't know what to expect when they walk into Neyland. D Thomas will be taken back some.
Ducks also have ZERO game footage on this Tennessee team. UT-Martin film is worthless.
All in all I don't think we know anything about this Tennessee team yet. I think our defense will be very good and keep us in the game. Simms didn't make any bad decisions and if he can be accurate, our offense can be solid.

Simms just have to manage the game and not try to be the hero. It's up to the Oline and our backs to win the game, IMHO. The pressure should be off of our QBs since they are green and lack experience. We just need to pound the rock down the Ducks' bills

Sorry to offend. Should we put you in the same category with the Polian genius at Indy that only has one ring with the best QB in the game since Montana.

Easy. Bad choice of words, but I'll cover any 10 point spread against TN at home this year.

I agree. Still a lot of unknowns left to answer. I'm interested to see what happens in the Oregon game. I think it'll be a close game in all honesty.

This is how Tennessee wins Saturday

General Neyland's 7 Maxims

1. The team that makes the fewest mistakes will win.

2. Play for and make the breaks and when one comes your way - SCORE.

3. If at first the game - or the breaks - go against you, don't let up... put on more steam.

4. Protect our kickers, our QB, our lead and our ball game.

5. Ball, oskie, cover, block, cut and slice, pursue and gang tackle... for this is the WINNING EDGE.

6. Press the kicking game. Here is where the breaks are made.

7. Carry the fight to our opponent and keep it there for 60 minutes.

I won't say the boys in orange don't have a shot... but come on...
more talented teams from Tenn than this have lost to pac 10 schools the past 2 years..and that pac 10 school lost to this one coming to town.
We can dare to dream....and I am..

This reminds me of 83 or 84 before the Bama game. RB Johnnie Jones asked what was the line and they said Bama by 2. He said 2 points? They said naw, 2 touchdowns. Johnnie said 2 TOUCHDOWNS??? Aint gonna happen. And it didn't; we beat them again that year.

I hope the spread goes to 23 1/2 before game time....as a motivating factor, I want every single thing I can grasp onto to use as the "world against us" theme....Its proven over and over and over again ever week to be effective....now, that will get you maybe too the fourth quarter....then you have to do the rest on your own...Let's just "wait and see"....truth is, nobody knows yet!!!
For some reason, many think we have no talent....ITS DEPTH WE DON'T HAVE.....Thats where the kicking game , defense, and field position play the greatest roles...

I can't remember the last time Tennessee was a double digit underdog in their own house. I'm not sure they ever have been to my knowledge.

go back a page or too
lot of discssion on it last night

Vegas Vol posted alot of info back to '89, and it hadn't happened since then

your proving how much you know, rocking the SC logo
Get out

WOW, 13.5 is really high. It is possible that Oregon wins by a couple of TD's or more but it is possible for Tennessee to do the same. Whatever the formula is for deciding favorites seems a little flawed in this case. I think it will be a lot closer than 13 points either way.

I agree, Oregon actually for probably the first time ever has plenty of depth and probably the best talent ever, which could be a deciding factor in this game. What I find crazy though is looking at the history between the 2 schools (the fact Oregon is not a powerhouse and has only one BCS win and Tennessee has won a NC and though they are down at the moment is still a powerhouse) combined with the talent, though not deep, the fact you are an SEC team, Playing at home, with both the team and fans pumped to beat a top 15 team.... with all of these things Oregon is still favored to win big, I don't get it. As a Duck fan it is great to see that but the reality is it is only the 2nd game of the season and Oregon played a terrible team in week one and doesn't really know what they have. Oregon was supposed to beat Ohio State in the Rose Bowl last season and we saw how that turned out.

I've seen a few as low as -12, but I think it will hover in the -12.5 to -13.5 the whole week which is probably about right. If most were to take off the orange sunglasses, they would probably bet on Oregon to cover a 12-13 point spread. But anything can happen... that's why they call it gambling.

I read 12.5. Who cares? Play the game. I have a feeling this young QB from Oregon is going to be shell shocked by the Neyland crowd alone (see: Nate Longshore). If we bring some surprises at them on defense, have a really solid running game that controls the clock and keeps the ball with us, who knows what happens?

Oregon has not been a scoring machine against decent defenses away from Autzen.

I wish they were a 21 point favorite. We seem to play better historically when we are generally perceived as having no chance to win.

"They ain't got no respect for ya . . . go out there an make 'em remember ya for as long as they live . . . the way you hit, the way you hustle" etc., etc.

Go Vols!!!!
