Looks like no gameday for Cal/Tenn Game

i don't see what the big deal is here. the gameday thing is no longer a novelty to be celebrated. it's a business venture that ABC/Disney/ESPN have to aquire more market share.

i could really care less. Good for VT and ECU.

It is not a jealously thing from my end Jake. Just looks like a business trying to capitalize on someone's misery from my end.

This is actually part of an interesting phenomenon. ...

What does Gameday have to do with this massacre? Nothing directly, of course. But in a way, the filtering of tragedy through the two biggest things that most Americans have in common -- sports and TV -- is an enormous public validation of sorts. Having Gameday at Virginia Tech, Monday Night Football in New Orleans is almost equivalent to a funeral service..

Very nice thoughts...

This move was a given just as soon as CNN went wall to wall the day of the shootings. It is simply how things are done.

College Gameday sold out years ago. They have no integrity anymore so I don't care if they go to Cal or not. It's probably an advantage for TN in the end because the "excitement" level of the fans won't be quite as high at the stadium.

I hate it when businesses sell out.

what an ingracious post... last time I checked even though we kicked their a$$, CAL finished higher than us in the rankings... way to come off as a total yocal.

i'd take the opposite theory. The game is at 5pm, gameday is at 7am. Half the fans who attended gameday will comatose by gametime

Another example of how different the college football fan base is in the South.

Approved beverages and start times in the SEC:

6 - 9 A.M. - Screwdrivers, Bloody Marys and Tequila Sunrises.

9 till Noon - Beer, Wine and Margaritas.

Noon till Kickoff - Bourbon on the rocks if its over 90 degrees and straight up if its under. Bourbon is also an approved beverage in any earlier time slot.

You had me at hello...

I really don't see how the 1st football game is going to be any different at VT than the other games...people are dead, and if they've not dealt with it by now, I don't see how having some huge slow-music memorial all day on ESPN is going to help anything. I have been saturated with the VT shootings. I'm done hearing about it...it happened, it was a tragedy...but it's not the place of ESPN to try to make us all feel better. It's GAMEDAY not SOFTMUSICFEELBETTERDAY. They need to focus on the best game each week, not what they can cash in on emotionally.

What "integrity" did this college football pregame show ever have that it is somehow missing now?

I'm kinda surprised so many are angry. This horrible thing occured at VPI and if they want it then I have no issue and neither should anyone outside of the VPI family.

I don't care that it's not for our game, I care that ESPN feels it is useful outside of sports programming. Gameday has always been about showing the best game, not some big blowout against a team that some High Schools can beat.

1. I am not angry
2. I would bet that "they" all don't want it.
3. People outside of the VPI family can have opinions on the show since it is meant for consumption by college football fans.

When I said they I meant the decision makers at VPI. And I understand that you and some may get tired of hearing it. That is the beauty of the mute button. I will have no issue with it just as I had no issue with all the sports teams paying homage to the 9/11 attacks. I was at the UT LSU game and it is one of my all time favorite games. When the fans of both schools stood, shook hands and chanted USA, USA and the eagle flew to the 50 yard line it was unbelievable.
