Looks like LA could be getting a team in the near future

A writer in the LA area that I'm associated with on another site just said this....

Just spoke with one of the guys who's working with Ed Roski on the new stadium in Los Angeles.

Basically, he guaranteed there would be an NFL team moving to Los Angeles for either 2009 or 2010. Here were the specifics...

- There are 7 or 8 NFL owners who want new stadiums built and can't get them soon in their current locations. Obviously Goddell and the NFL FO is on LA's side of this whole deal.

- Not only is the obvious, the fact Los Angeles is within a one-hour drive of 15.5 million people, attractive to several NFL owners, but the ones who have met with Roski and Co. have been floored by not only the design, but the fact that the new stadium will cost up to one billion dollars less than the new stadium in New York because its gonna be built into a hill.

- The environment clearance is still ongoing, and probably won't be cleared for another 3 months. Once that happens, Roski believes they will have several NFL franchises bidding for the deal, again based on the secret meetings they've already had with a number of owners.

- Once a deal is announced publicly and ground is broken on the new stadium, Roski claims said NFL team will move to Los Angeles immediately (either 09 or 10) because they will be unable to sell tickets in their current location, not to mention backlash.

- Apparently the Rose Bowl and Coliseum have a hand-shake deal that either will be able to act as an interim location of the relocated team, as the new stadium won't be completed until 2011. The new revenue for either will generate massive upgrades for their primary tenant, either USC or UCLA in this case.

- One last note: There's almost no chance LA gets an expansion team, instead of a relocation. Goddell and the NFL FO is adamant to keep the 32-team format for a very long time, and with several NFL teams needing new stadiums, it makes much better financial sense all the way around to move one of them.

Personally, I'm hoping for either Jacksonville (Del Rio = Trojan) or Minnesota.

Could be Jacksonville due to ticket sales, but most likely it's going to be either an upset owner....I'm thinking oakland's your best bet though

The nfl's been trying to get a team to LA for a long time, but I just kinda feel the city's not the best at supporting a professional football team from the NFL....especially if there are years when the team's mediocre at best

aren't she Saints getting a brand new stadium? if so, I doubt they'd move

That would be news to me. I know the owner did agree to fix up the dome but no deal was made for a new stadium as far as I know.
