Looks like “fit” is important after all

LSU was heavily criticized for hiring Ed O, but he’s done nothing but win 75% of his games and get them in the top 10. It’s a match made in Heaven.. it’s just taking people a while to realize it.

Other examples of a great fit:

Mullen and Florida
Smart and Georgia
Diaz and Miami
Cutcliffe and Duke
Mason and Vandy
Herman and Texas
Fitzgerald and Northwestern
Whittingham and Utah

The list goes on and on. It’s important. Stop talking about Mike Leach. Jeremy Pruitt is our guy. He’ll get it right. Go Vols.
He's a bammer. How is that a great fit?

You’re not thinking like a professional. You're thinking like a die hard fan whose emotions are connected to the team you’re a fan of, but I doubt you think Pruitt goes on rants when Alabama doesn’t play well.

Do you even understand college football? Teams are only allowed to have a certain number of official team personnel on the sideline during a game. Last year Saban chose to give one of those coveted spots to Butch during our game. Saban literally took a spot from an assistant and gave it to the guy that washes his car and gets him coffee just to piss off Vol fans. There was nothing “professional” about Saban’s decision

Pretty sure it was to give Alabama a competitive advantage but who knows. Maybe Saban indeed cares about how Tennessee fans feel. But I doubt it.

How would Butch Jones on the sideline give the team a competitive advantage? Pretty sure we disproved that theory for several years in a row.

My biggest issue with the North Alabama Kojak from the get-go has been “fit”. Lifelong Alabama fans don’t “fit” on the hill. I don’t think it has to be a Tennessee guy, though our track record with those was pretty good. But it does need to be somebody who appreciates the tradition, and history of this program. Bama is one of the few places that our history and tradition May fade next to. There is little for him to appreciate here other than a far-too-large paycheck and buyout.

We are two years and a coaching search from relevance.

Coach Cutcliffe is an "Alabama guy" but I don't think there's any question about his love for this University.

Pruitt may or may not be the guy but he took this job when no one wanted it. For the Mike Leach crowd spare me.

So what? Vince Dooley played and coached fir Auburn.
I’ve not disagreed with what your saying, other than to say I don’t think it applies to Pruitt. He’s spoken about his affinity for Alabama since being our coach.

I just don’t believe you rebuild your program to beat your biggest rival, by hiring one of their beloved coaches....not if you’re Tennessee. You do something different, that makes your rival have to plan for something different.

There is nothing nefarious about Pruitt...I just don’t see him as a fit, or a good choice. I’m not trying to change the way anyone feels about him. I think overall he’s poorly spoken, and a poor representation of who we are. Oh yeah....and I don’t think he’s a good HEAD coach. But since we’re stuck with him I hope he turns it around. He’s not going anywhere anytime soon. We’re in one bad coach too deep.

Being #25 in the country (currently) and winning week 1? Seems a bit better than what UT got going in presently.

I'll never understand the whole, "but he didn't attend or play for UT, so he's purposely not going to do well." I don't know of anyone who would get hired somewhere and purposely tank. I'm not saying he's the guy, but this notion that it's because he's a "Bama guy" is absurd.

There is no way to know if he is or isn't at this point, but I love the positivity. So many posters want to bathe in the disgusting kiddie pool of despair.

At least someone gets it. Honestly I really have no idea if he’s the guy. I do like his personality and pedigree but I don’t know if he’ll bring us back. Just don’t like seeing all the mean comments. He’s a guy doing the best he can like the rest of us. If he fails we’ll try again but he hasn’t failed until he’s had a chance to compete with a team full of his own guys... which means he should get 4 or 5 years. Until then I’ll defend him barring some off the field nonsense.

He’s a country dude with deep SEC roots. Played for our biggest rival. Knows how to recruit and win at a blue blood program. Understands hillbilly culture. Likes cornbread. Aight?
Aight! Reminds me of a little country girl that was flirting with me when I was about 18-19. I said, "How old are you?" She was probably 15- 16.

She put on this innocent little smile and said, "Old enough to eat my cornbread without choking."

I'm still not exactly sure what that meant, but quickness and confidence of that reply, still makes me laugh.

Oh btw this is relevant, because Pruitt ain't quite there yet. Still choking.
