I plan to retire down there and plan to make multiple trips to check out different cities in the state.[/QUOTE]

When this time comes check out McMinn County, right on 75. Less than an hour to Knoxville or Chattanooga, 2.5 hours to Atlanta or Nashville. Only 8 hours to the beach.

Last time I was in Pigeon Forge I watched a guy drive off without paying for gas . . . and then get pulled over less than a mile away because he was too stupid to think about the fact that the traffic was so bad he couldn't make a getaway.

Then 5 minutes later as we were laughing about how sad that whole episode was, I was scarred for life as a morbidly obese skank popped up out of a sunroof and flashed the world at 55mph.

Again, thanx for the info. You all went above and beyond. We have done follow up research based on recommendations and plan to hit the Gatlinburg. We'll do Ripley's Aquarium and the Mirror Maze (kid's thought it looks cool). We're also gonna hit one of the Falls and do the round trip hike. Don't know which one yet. Hafta do more research.

All that said, Dollywood closes at 7 on the day we're goin. Any litle known favorites as far as restaurants go in/near PForge...or even well known?

Peddler Steakhouse in G'burg is a must.
I tried to go there with my wife and some friends for Valentine's Day a few years back. We called ahead and they weren't accepting reservations. We got there around 5:30 and they told us that the wait was 6 and a half hours. I lol'd and we ended up at Smoky Mountain Brewery where I had the worst dining experience of my life.

FWIW, if he's going on a Friday morning, PF won't be that difficult in terms of traffic. Shouldn't be much going in and he's going against traffic going out. G'burg is nice, but

You know what? It's great for you. The "but" was to say that unless you're schwasted, it's not that exciting, cause it's such a family area. They'll love it. Go nuts and enjoy that you're in G'burg when it's not a Saturday or Sunday

The Old Mill and The Apple Barn are faves with my family.

Ruby Falls is all a lie - it's fake and pretty much not all natural (atleast not anymore - maybe it was) - they "help" the stream. Don't go.

You want to really have fun in Chattanooga? Go to the aquarium and then on the way back to knoxville, stop in Collegedale and go to the Little Debbie thrift store where you can fill a shopping cart full of damaged Nutty Bars for roughly $20. A good time will be had by all.

I've always wanted to stop in Athens at the Mayfield store. I wonder if they hook you up like that with ice cream?

I'm taking my newly formed family back home to Chatt this April. Shocked at how expensive Ruby Falls and Rock City is now..

You mean for a visit, or moving here? How long since you've been in Chattanooga? Only reason I'm asking is because the river front is pretty cool now. The areas around the aquarium (walking paths, restaurants, bridges, etc) are worth more time than Rock City or Ruby Falls, imo.

I was very underwhelmed with the Apple Barn when I went in December.

The Old Mill is fantastic however, both the restaurant and the store called the country kitchen or whatever on the end. Make sure you get a few of the dips there. The pizza dip coupled with pretzels is money.
