The wife and I have talked about doing this for years and are now very seriously looking into it. I would appreciate any info or leads on jobs, housing (just looking to rent for now), and decent areas for our family. I have worked for thirteen years in a manufacturing plant and made decent money, but the shift work has kept me away from my family and in an area that I'm not happy living in. It's time for a change.
Thanks for any responses.

Well if Chattanooga is an option, there's a relatively new (built in the last few years) Volkswagen plant here that has starting wages somewhere in the neighborhood of $16-18 an hour. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee is also headquartered here (that's actually where I work), and we are literally ALWAYS hiring for one thing or another (especially in jobs that generally do not require prior experience). We also have an amazon facility, but I have no idea about starting wages there. Chattanooga is a beautiful place to live, definitely worth checking out if it's feasible.

We don't want Doyle in East Tennessee. Stay in Arkansas and keep working at the mill.

First of all, I'm not in Arkansas, but I think you were making reference to the movie. The mill has gotten the best of me. When you are as sorry as I am, that doesn't leave much.
Thanks to all that have responded. I am dead serious in this thread.

No hard feelings. Just making light of it since it is in fact your username.

Good luck in your move.

I never thought you were good enough to play in the West Tenn, and quite frankly, I don't think you ever had a committable-offer from us anyway. GTFO, gaspumper!

Sometimes it's better to ride the bench on a top notch program rather than start for a loser.

Most of my experience has been more on the chemical side. I work in the lime kiln department at a paper mill. My job title is Caustic Leader, meaning that it is my job to oversee the production of the chemicals needed to process the wood chips into pulp.
I am responsible for this and the crew that works with me in the area.

There is a paper mill in Calhoun? Not positive about location. Bowater is the name of it.

Do you work at the mill between Michie and Pickwick?

There is a smallish chemical plant in Kingsport that may be more to your liking. I think there is also one in Morristown, it sure smells bad when I drive through. The aroma around the Kingsport plant smells like money.

Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport.

Property values in that area have gone up in the last few years, but most of the communities in the Tri Cities area are within an okay drive of Kingsport.

Plus, puts you right in position for the Battle of Bristol in a couple of years. :)

There is some nice properties in Kingsport for sale right now and the price tags is not as high as you think. Domtar Papermill is located in Kingsport also and will be hiring in January 2014

That's the place.

That's interesting, I'm a half hour Northeast in Decatur County. The wife and I have been looking into heading back to Knoxville as well. Best of luck Doyle...since you're not FOS! LOL

As previously posted, the Kodak plant in Kingsport was the first place I thought of.

There is a fairly good size chemical plant in Newport, the SI Group. They bought out the Great Lakes Chemical facility a few years ago.
