Looking back, when should Fulmer have been asked to resign/canned and why?

He should have been terminated as soon as he got back from Tempe in January of '99.

After that day, he got complacent.

Of course hindsight is 20/20 but I could see the decline of the program starting with the 2002 CG against LSU. We knock their starting QB out of the game. Then allow the back up to come in and lead them to a comeback victory. We were way more talented than LSU that year and had already defeated them once earlier in the season. To me that is still the most painful loss I've witnessed. At least in the 2007 CG I felt that our team left it all on the field. LSU was way more talented than us that year and we fought gallantly.

Some of you armchair ADs/HCs just crack me up....

Corey Millers quote about the CPF regime on GVX tells you all you need to know about the state of the program at the end of his time here at UT. He was running the program into the ground. There is absolutely no denying that. If CPF were the coach this year, we wouldnt have even won 5 games again.

don't forget, their starting running back was out also.

we had enough points on the board at halftime for the win.

classic example of losing the game, instead of being beaten by the superior team.

Fulmer should have retired after the NC plain and simple. The bottomline he was not a good coach to begin with but was smart enough to surround himself with decent coaches. All you have to do is look at some of his assistants who are still coaching today Cutcliffe and Chavis. Those are the high demand coaches teams have went after not Fulmer. If CPF was a smart man he would get the idea of coaching again out of his head.

I received a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle’s – Family Reserve over the holidays. Come one down and we will share a drink.

I bought a bottle in Chicago earlier this month at Benny's liquor warehouse, worth every dollar! The 10 yr old is good but the 20 yr old is on a different level. The Vols win tonight I will be toasting some Pappy!

Never tried the 23 yr old but it is not rated as high as the 20. The price difference on the 23 yr old vs the 20 yr old is significant. I paid $115 for the 20 yr old and the 23 yr old was $238, I am going to stick with the 20.

Another good bourbon is Rock Hill Farms

Didn't see Miller's quote but I'm sure I don't need his insight on the state of our program...we just don't have enough talent. The new staff was resolving that issue but now with so many departures I have some concerns...hopefully we will be able to hire equals of those departing.

No doubt CPF should have been fired but have a couple questions for those who think CPF should have been fired in 05...does that mean Hammy wasn't doing his job then? If so, shouldn't we have fired Hammy in 08 with CPF?

It seems like deja vue!

I read that as Mike Leach left the hotel...

"his interim replacement, defensive coordinator Ruffin McNeill, was holding a news conference."

The AD and a coach are having a power struggle. The AD gets rid of a powerful coach and an assistant coach is taking over.

Does anyone know if they consulted with Fulmer and Dickey about how pull this off?

He should have been fired the day he started Rick Clausen, and shot the day he started Jonathan Crompton.
