The talent on his team got Fulmer the majority of his wins but unfortunately, the kids needed better coaching against our perennial foes

Apparently you do not follow Vol football very closely. Might wanna check out his last record. You also might want to check out how he did with Cutty and without him. BIG difference.
Fulmer lost the fire in his belly. If we kept him we might suck quite as bad as we do know, but we would be 8-5 tops.

They win because God feels sorry for them and throws them the football bone, something they can brag about as they head back to their single wides and cousin/wives after the game to get ready for a big day at Walmart.

It's funny that Waco comes in here with a heavy sarcasm-laced comment and some bright lightbulbs actually agreed with him.

He was saying that winning a weak SEC-E is Fulmer's ceiling. Outright. And some of you proud individuals are happy with that.

I wanted Fulmer gone, and honestly the minute I saw him crying at his final press conference I regretted that him getting fired ever since.

Looking back I agree. At the time though he had to go. That said, I waited over 40 years for a n/c at UT and Phil delivered. So I, myself, can't be too harsh on the guy looking back. Now we are going on 16 years since the n/c with more bad than good years. I do think Butch Jones will stop the bleeding though. FINALLY!

you people holding so tight onto the fact his firing was the correct thing to do really need to get your heads on in the correct direction..

and on top of that we didn't finish 1st or second in the east a total of three times while he was the head coach.. Cutcliffe was not there for a vast majority of that time..

I would really like to know what fantasy world you live in that you could possibly think a coach with this type of winning history.. one that no one can match.. one that put him in the HALL OF FAME

He would all of a sudden only be able to manage 8 win seasons, when he averaged 10 over a 17 year career.

I would insult your intelligence at this point, as is the volnation way of doing things.. but you probably wouldn't understand the joke anyway since you cant understand the FACTS of why he was even fired.

Everyone just ignores the fact that Hamilton was campaigning against CPF for years because he was mad that CPF ran the show and had more power then he did.. and somehow our fan base with their unrealistic expectations let him do it over one losing season a year after we were playing for the SEC championship.

It still amazes me to this day......

148 wins over 16 full years as coach is 9.25 wins per year.

Averaged 10.5 wins per year in first six years before NC.

Averaged 8.5 wins per year in last 10 years, after NC.

29 wins in his last 4 years as coach is 7.25 wins per year.

4 wins in 92 would only increase wins per year to 9.3 for entire career, if CPF was credited with 1/3 of 92 season.

CPF is a HOF coach, but was on a downward slide.

You might want to check out how Dooley did, iluvsmesumdooley. This dissin' on Fulmer is crap. It's gonna be a lifetime before the Vols get in an NC again much less win one. What have your coaches done for you lately?

I go back and forth in regards to if it was time for a change, but I get choked up whenever I watch CPF presser. I wish CPF would have not got into a slump and really miss Chavis and Cutt. Without the 3 together...it unfolded....then the entire program went south as we all know. Its been tough years. I'm homesick for those Guys....give anything to get them back, but its water under the bridge now.
Here's to us getting back to where we belong....

Neyland built a program. Majors built a program. Fulmer inherited a program and took it to a NC level. All three are HOF coaches.
CBJ is attempting to do what Neyland and Majors did. Can he do it? Who knows, but he has had a better start than Kiffin or Dooley.

In the five years following his release, were 0-2 in bowl games and haven't been bowling period in 3 years.

As soon as butch starts winning no one will say "we should've never fired Phil." It's like dumping a girlfriend and picking the wrong woman afterwards. It's easy to look back and second guess yourself because yes there were some good times, and by all accounts we've been slumming ever since; that doesn't change the fact that it was time to move on. There were many indicators that we'd be in the shoes we're in right now had we kept Phil. As soon as we have the home run hire we won't be looking back and I sure as F hope that hire is Butch Jones.

Majors in the the HOF as a player, not a coach, as far as I know.
