Looking back....1984

That was great....it was my Jr year at UT. Things that stood out back then that I remember well were the lack of upperdeck in the north endzone, mascot smokey wearing that god-awful orange costume, the "V-O-L-S" letters on top of the south endzone upper deck, some great plays shown by Reggie White, Willie Gault, Johnnie Jones, Chuck Coleman, and a host of other Volunteers, the "T" being formed by the band on the east side of the field, the Hoskins library instead of the current pyramid library which my tuition helped pay for but I never got to use. Good stuff.....thanks for sharing the video and bringing back some memories.

A few things from that video:

1- No empty seats in the stands
2- No Woo in Rocky Top
3- No Black on the away jerseys
4- The chick in the blue dress is hot!

I was 23 at the time and I remember it well, we can't take KY lightly, we need to score early and often

Wasn't it at night? Back then, it was unusual to have a night game in November.

No, it was during the day. I was there. It ended as Robinson threw the ball out of bounds in trying to stop the clock. I guess you couldn't spike it back then.

I was there also, shouldn't have lost that game. Shows how you can never let your guard down in the SEC. Sadly that was the last game I attended as a student as I graduated the next Spring.

Here is another clip of a happier day from a few years earlier (since we are reminiscing . . .)

I was at that game...the memory I have is of Tony Robinson throwing the ball out of bounds to kill the clock as time expired...We were somewhere around Kentucky's 10 yds line and should've had one more play...:salute:

Wait, so you are saying an SEC HC who had been in the job for 7 years and who came to Tennessee with a resume that included a NC Trophy and 2 previous HC jobs had some clock management challenges in a close game? Wow, I can't believe that!

Yeah, I am kinda vaugely trying to remember that. For some reason, I get that game and the 6-6 tie with Georgia Tech mixed up. Was it kinda cold the day of the Kentucky game? The score was like 17-12 or something?

I love Majors he had some huge victories, but he could really stink it up against teams he shouldve beat such as Army in 1986.

We tied Army in 84, 24 all, beat GTech 24-21 and lost to Kentucky 17-12.

Yeah, I was talking about the tie with Georgia Tech in 1985 (I think?). It was a night game...we had to kick a long field goal just to tie it...right after Tony Robinson got hurt and Dickey was playing his first game.
