It is pathetic that even back in the 90's when UF used to be the only game we lost early every year it always felt like the season was over - of course back then season being over at UT meant no realistic chance to win the SEC or NC.

I see your point. However it was pathetic to think that way then and it's pathetic now.

Contemplate this for a moment. I have read posts on this hoard that said "I don't care if we lose the rest of our games, as long as we beat Florida." If we went 11-1 and our only loss was to UF, there would be Vol fans who would complain about losing one game out of 12.

I honestly believe we could win an SEC title, while losing to Florida and there would be doubters. It's just the pathetic state that some fans have sunk to. Hinging hopes and dreams of a successful season on one game is ridiculous.

If we had beaten Georgia then maybe Fl game is less of a big deal W/L. But, if we had beaten Ga we would have expected to beat Fl. We still EXPECTED to beat Florida. Florida is not good this year, we had them at home, etc. With that loss, we gave to their program while forfeiting some of our momentum. That is why people hinge so much on that loss. The way that series has gone as of late, you gotta get the win when you're supposed to get the win. Especially from an arch rival. If we beat Bama or Ole Miss all is forgiven.

That was the way it was all through the 90s and 00s. We played UF the 3rd game of the season and depending on that game, our season was set. Most of the time, it was "we need a little help..." to get to the SECCG (i.e. UGA, USCe or 2 SEC West teams to beat UF). The UF game being pivotal is no different now.

People have made threads referencing the UF game all week. Does my post affect you in some way? Sorry if it does. Of course your usually one of the Nancy's anyway. So tell yourself whatever you want if that makes you feel better.
