"Would Dooley jump ship and come back to L.S.U. (if Miles leaves)?"

"No, and No. He would not jump to Georgia either. This is a destination job for him and many on this board totally underestimate the pretiege and potential of the Tennessee program."

"no. I wish he would because he and Sark would be my choices after Miles gets fired this year. Both have excellent football minds and intense gameday preparation and focus.

Tennessee is a great job and he will do well there...I feel like he is the next great coach with Saban and Meyer..,. "

"Why would Dooley want to leave Tennessee and come to LSU? Without factoring emotion into it, I would view that as a lateral move from the standpoint of coaching jobs."

To describe his person and character in leaving:

Can you really blame Dooley for this move?

"He did it fairly, openly and with integrity. He stuck by Tech for longer than he had to and he left your program in great shape. Get over it. Celebrate his and your success."

"It was a great opportunity for him, nothing more.
If Tenn hadn't hired him , LSU probably would have in a year or 2."

On the difficulty of Louisiana Tech:

"Big difference between LSU to Miami then Bama and the Tech school in Ruston to Tennessee. Get your High School bleachers looking good and you might get the coach from Mandeville High as your coach. No way any OC or DC in major college football would go to Ruston."

These guys wanted him as their HC, and we got him. I'm pretty excited about this guy. I have not heard a single bad thing about him from people who know who he is. Good hire I think!

Great post!

I'm fellin' pretty good about this hire as well, though we all need to give him some time. even "he who shall not be named" said 2010 was going to be a down year.

My hope is that Coach Dooley will rally the troops and show the SEC that we're not going anywhere but up in the standings.

WOW, that's a testament right there. From fans who probably get local coverage of LaTech around Louisiana, whereas we have never heard much about the guy up in TN.

Thanks for passing these words along. I'm very happy with the hire, especially after watching his press conference last night. He WILL win football games in Knoxville, and eventually, he will beat the big boys too. We have to give it a little time. Everyone was giving Lame Kitten until the 2011 year to compete for championships, and we should do the same with Dooley...maybe even 2012 with the fallout A**face created by bolting this week.

GO VOLS!!!

I did not know him other than his name. But the more I dig and listen to what other coaches, players and media are saying plus the presser. I think we did well.

Can hardly wait to see how it translates on the field.

Exactly! I did a lot of research lastnight such as reading up about him, stats, watching his press conference, and reading LSU fans talk about him and everything that I have read has been nothing but good and yes the LSU fans aren't particularly happy with Miles right now and CDD was on the very top of their list and they have nothing but great things to say about him. My brother lives in Lafayette, LA and his fiance and their family were born and raised in LA and her dad is a huuge LSU fan and he said we better get ready because he will do great things here.

I'm glad we've made the rest of the SEC happy with this hiring decision.

I felt bad for Lousiana Tech fans at first but there are a bunch of them acting like he just did to them what Kiffin did to us. I wouldn't be happy about losing my coach before national signing day either(I wasn't when Kiffin did it to us) but they act like it was a lateral move. The guy got a 2 million dollar raise per year. If they really think he was going to pass on that then they are crazy. If it was from 6-8 million that's one thing because there isn't much you can do with 8 that you can't do with 6. It was 400k to 2.4 million though.

I still don't know how I feel about this hire but it's good to see LSU fans wishing he had replaced Les Miles who won a national championship. If Saban was being truthful in saying he fears Dooley more than anyone that was on UT's list, that's also good news. I don't know if I believe that he was being honest though.

Im a La Tech Alum a LSU die hard and a New Vol Fan,

I am aware that jobs at small school programs like La Tech are stepping stones to bigger programs but i was really hoping he would stay at Tech until Miles was canned. Im not disappointed that Dooley was hired as Head coach of UT since i do live in Tennessee and do support our state university but man did I want him to be the head coach of LSU.

UT find a rare gem in Dooley. His history working under Saban and alongside star assistant coaches like Muschamp and Smart solidfy his knowledge and ability to coach and represent the Pride that exumes from the VolNation. Congrats on the new hire.

Go La Tech
Go LSU
Go VOls
and Go anybody who beats alabama

Like 2006, 2008 and 2009... The bar is set pretty low for CDD. I'm actually shocked there wasn't more interest in this job for this very reason.

Everyone knew, with our player losses and SOS, that the '10 season was going to be a tough one. But at least we'll be able to endure it with a man of principles at the helm. I especially liked DD's appeal to Majors and Fulmer (in the same breath) at the presser... who knows where that will lead. Going to be an interesting year.

I'm a Tech Alum and very involved with the Tech Football program. Very Very involved. There is absolutley nobody that means anything to Tech athletics upset with Dooley leaving for UT before national signing day.

When you support small school programs, like myself, you are fully aware that your coach if he is good, will leave to a bigger program. We pride ourselves based on that fact. Fans of Large programs like UT, LSU etc. are not use to there coaches leaving for other prominent jobs. When Saban left LSU for the Dolphins i wasnt mad upset yes but understood his decision. Now, when he went to ala. i cant stand that at all and hope the tide gets rolled and flushed down the toilet every single game.

Dooley is going to be a great coach at UT. His record as a Head coach was good considering the economics of the game. Tech needed to play the Fla. and LSU for the paychecks to support the fledgling athletic program.

All Hail Derek Dooley as the newly appointed and well deserved coach of the Volunteers of Tennessee.

Good luck and we wish you well.

Best wishes,

A tech Alum, avid LSU fan and a newly appointed fan of the VolNation.

PS: Derek, can i get four tickets to he Tenn/LSU game?

I stopped reading after that. Not only did you misspell you're... but you show up on another teams board and insult a life long fan. That fan being me. Unlike you, I only cheer for one school. Take your bandwagon behind and GTFO.

I would have preferred Muschamp. But, I don't blame him for staying. It was reported he was making close to a mil. in salary, plus he was getting some booster money on top of that. Recruiting in Texas is worlds easier than Tennessee. As much as I hate to say it, UT is a better job than UT.

LSU fans are only saying this because their underachieving coach almost lost to La Tech. Auburn fans would probably have a different view.

C'mon man, be nice to the Tech Grad??? Obviously not an English major; if so, I am applying for a position on the faculty----and I've never taught squat.

Great hire by Tennessee, you will see a well coached, fundamentally sound football team team that will win with class in the years to come. You have a better coach today than you did last week, congrats. I hated what Kiffen did but at least he faced his team before he left, not like Franphoney. Good luck Vols!

LSU alum and current BR resident here. Dooley is a great hire. Tennessee is definitely not a stepping stone for this guy, and the only way he leaves is if he becomes great by winning a natty champ, which I'm sure yall wouldn't mind another one of those. Dooley is a man of class, although he cusses more than any coach you have ever had before, book it. Great hire, and good luck.

Dude you're right. I knew Mushchamp suggested him to Hamilton and I was pretty sure they had worked together in the past but I just researched it and they did. For 5 yrs both under Saban. I wasn't sure about Kirby Smart either and you're right about that one too 2 diff times once at LSU and once at the Dolphins. Just look at these guys now. I can't wait til the media hunts down Saban and asks him his opinion on the hire of CDD. I'm telling you the more I research this guy the more impressed I get.
