LOL at SEC Nation talking about the game

App State is a GOOD football team. They are not SEC caliber but there are SEC teams that would be underdogs. I expect a close half-time game and expect the BIG ORANGE to put it away in the 3rd Q. Taking them lightly could be catastrophic and also result in injuries.

False.

I assume by "SEC teams" you mean Vandy, but you're still incorrect. Maybe last year, but this year Vandy would be favored.

Name the SEC teams that would be underdogs to App state and give the reasons why.

No one would give this game a second thought, if a team of completely different players didn't beat an overrated team from Michigan a decade ago.

Once upon a time, Vandy beat Bama, but I'm not holding my breath

That App State win over Michigan is equivalent to Valparaiso beating Ole Miss in the NCAA tournament back in the 90's. Not relevant to anything but people still remember.

So what happened 9 years ago when today's players were in grades 3-6 is relevant? It is a great historical fact if you are an Appy State fan and a nightmare you can't forget if you are a Michigan fan.

Same thing we heard about Utah St and Western Kentucky. We can criticize CBJ for a number of things, but how he handles "great" G5 teams ain't one of them.

This is a sidebar to the main topic of the thread, but you got me thinking, Eskimo. I can honestly only come up with three things we could criticize Butch for:

(1) in-game decisions (and only a handful of those);
(2) cliche-riddled public speaking style; and
(3) punching Mack Crowder in the gut (in retrospect, maybe deserved).

In every other way--and there are a TON of facets to the head coaching job--he is just about perfect as a college football coach. The dude has it going on, that's all I'm saying. [and we all hope he's much better at #1 with experience]

Go Vols!

Frankly I don't like scheduling programs like the App St. Nobody talks for long about the win over them, unless you beat the snot of them and NOBODY WILL EVER forget or stop talking about a loss to them.

I would rather schedule a UCLA, Miami, Georgia Tech, etc.

The girl (who I think they said is new to the team) said "Dont forget App St knocked off Michigan A FEW years ago."
My dad also said that's all he has heard at work.
Good laughs. Can't wait for 12 days. Gonna be awesome.

App. St. though a decent TEAM is made up of guys that would be mostly 2* or less meaning a lot of walk on and gray shirts. They get players that do not get big time college offers. Our 2nd and 3rd string would handle them quite easily. 55-13 and that's if we call off the dogs!

No offense but Appy St is a warm up game. The only reason they have a chance is that they are willing to take a beating for a big check. It won't be close. We aren't Michigan from way back when and who knows how they compare to the team that beat Michigan. They do have a great HC.

Go Vols!

I disagree, I think they are a very good football team, and I think it will be a struggle. We need to get them early. If they survive the storm early we better look out. Not a team to take lightly. In fact, we don't have a single team in the first three that we can take lightly.

How often does lightning strike twice with these epic upsets. For the same lower tier team to pull a historic upset in the same decade would be almost unbelievable. Some team like Appy st will eventually knock off another team like Michigan, but I doubt it will be Appy St on the giving end or Michigan on the receiving end again.

The moral of the story with Appy St Michigan is don't take your cupcakes lightly. Play em hard and take care of business and send them away bruised and with a big check.

There is no chance our staff looks past them... It's worth a mention that Mike Debord was Michigan's OC in 2007.

Do you have any justification or reasoning for this line of thinking? Everything I can find argues that we are vastly more talented on both sides of the ball. So, are their coaches so much better than ours that they can neutralize the disparity?

UT can beat app state by 40-50---but, Butch may pull his starters in the early 3rd qtr to get the other players some work

If we can't take Appy St lightly, then we can't take any team lightly.

As fans Appy St is a gimme game along with Ohio and Tn Tech. After that we have the other 5 that we should win in comfortable fashion, then the 4 that we will need to play at a high level to get the win. I'm glad that we are finally to the point that our play alone can determine the outcome of the game. In the past we needed help from many teams to compete for the win, but now we can play and don't relax we go it covered. Time is now for a special year. How great can #120 be? I'm so ready to find out, but Appy won't test us, they will just be the 1st team we get to hit instead of each other, they will get a big check so don't feel sorry for them. We just need to win the game, no need to break them. Florida, we should break them and ruin their year.

As for the players, one game at a time and don't relax until it's in the bag.

Go Vols!

I hope we have that problem. Dooleys players had problems getting ahead by a field goal of a Appalachian Caliber team in the 4th quarter.
