LOI loophole (for Bruin or other recruiting specialists)

However it works out, gray shirting, blue shirting or over signing, it will work against next year's signing class numbers. But maybe Butch's strategy is to get a large class this year, get them in the program ready to play now, get some talent and depth now and take smaller class for 2015. For 2015, be very selective and take no marginal players. That could be a strategy for jump starting the program with some needed depth and talent.

Agreed on next years class but here is the big advantage.

Next years class at the moment looks to be less than 25 and getting some kids here it becomes easier to sign a full class knowing exactly what our needs are and attrition will be easier to judge

True story.
And having so many EE this year, and EEs counting for next year is huge for development.
I don't think anyone but CBJ could have done so much so soon.
We are at least 1 year ahead of the give him time curve.
I was thinking another 3 year wait and see situation.
We will know by the end of next year if not sooner that we have risen.
GBO

The question I think that needs to be asked is how many preferred walk ons are now a part of the team. Sorry I haven't figured out how to link in here yet, but I did a google search for preferred walk-on limits, and I saw somewhere a team can have as many as 20 preferred walk-ons at any time. (This may be where the term "blue shirt" comes from. I am a little fuzzy on it.)

Now, assuming there may be some current players that may transfer (example: Former Vols QB Nash Nance, now at Hampton-Sydney), the "extra" guys who agree to be preferred walk-ons may have a very short wait to get their scholarship. I have no info indicating this is what is happening, it is just my theory. If I am guessing right, some of the guys who are not currently getting playing time may become star players next year at lower division schools. And a few who have nagging injuries that just won't go heal like Justin Meredith, may be grad assistants.

Guess we will find out how this all works out soon enough. GBO!

Thanks CoastyPop...have always wondered about that...I guess that rule is to eliminate Bama from giving people like Keith McCants and Dexter Manley an academic scholarship...

That is sad. If those guys could get academic scholarships, it could satisfy the world's dire shortage of professional underwater basket weavers. Tragic.

Not sure on summer workouts

They can participait in summer.

Key is being considered a recruited athlete and it comes down to the phone calls if they can push forward.

So long as Butch made 1 call and told a recruit he had to always call, then its possible.

They better have a perfect record of not calling that recruit though.

The two Berry's are the only two I could see.

I am with you.

The phone call rule really scares me. It also states no arranged phone calls. A direct message on twitter is just that IMO.

IMO we are going to have a few schools crying foul and if we do this that kind of thing might burn us

Yeah, it would have had to been planned from the start which I cant imagine.

Wharton is UOVing again this weekend. This team player and lead recruiter of this class seems to be a likely person to do this for the greater good of the class IMO.

This is an absolutely perfect situation, best part is, just do the same thing next year and over sign and take away from the '16 class

Unless of course, the NCAA takes note of it, and changes the rules again. I swear, I think they hate us. AND maybe a few other programs too.
