Logically there is no way Hart can retain Dooley at 7-5

Hart can't retain Dooley, if he does the Vols become known as UT Lite....everybody will want to schedule a Dooley coached UT and we become the laughing stock of the SEC

We will be killed on the recruiting trail if Dooley is retained. Dooley will still be on the hot seat next year and nothing will be decided long term if Dooley is still here at the end of the year. There is just no way Hart can justify retaining Dooley no matter if he wins out including a bowl win.

Unless he's a plant. We are going to find out if he is or not this week.

It would be kinda cool though to be other schools' homecoming. We get to see all of the pretty floats.

Do you really think he has to justify retaining Dooley for another year? No.

Don't say he has to logically justify anything.. If he wants to keep him, then he can keep him. If he wants to drop him, he can drop him. He's the AD, NOT THE FAN BASE (thank god).

Now, that being said, can a wrong decision be jeopardizing his career? Yes, of course. He could easily be in trouble for the wrong call.

According to the impatience of our fan base (and half of them are just plain ignorant, but plenty have understandable and viable reasons), the wrong decision is to keep Dooley.

I personally do not like Gruden (or any other coaches I've caught rumors about), however, I do agree with the fact that Dooley hasn't gotten it done.. yet. He has 6 years on his contract.. he's been through 3. Another year will not harm anything, and will give a lot more insight to his capabilities. Just my opinion. I will admit, there is partial bias on my part due to Dooley's integrity as a person; what can I say? I think he's a great guy and I truly believe he wants it enough to actually get the job done.

But heck, if he gets canned and Gruden (or any of the other coaches) comes our way, I'm all for supporting Gruden until the next head coach after him!

What has Gruden done to you to not like him personally? Do you know him?

Oh, absolutely nothing. I should clarify, I don't like him as a potential head coach for us. It's indisputable that he knows his football, that's for sure.

But he's not a proven coach at the collegiate level. He did a great job in the pros. You have to have coaching skills to win a super bowl ring. But the main point of arguments about Dooley is that he's not proven himself at this level, but neither has Gruden.

Therefore, I don't think it's a safe bet to drop Dooley for him. I realize their situations are different (Dooley hasn't proven himself at either level) but I don't know if I'd be willing to gamble the progress we've made (I don't care what anyone says, WE HAVE MADE PROGRESS) with a Gruden hire that's not certain. Something tells me Ill be flamed about that.

History proves that success at higher levels is not a guarantee at the college level.

Logic is probably what will keep Dooley here.
If Wilcox hadn't bolted we'd probably be 7-1.
If we finish 8-5 with this defense, Dooley deserves a season with his seniors.
Recruit a big downhill runner and a couple of kickers.
Add a defensive backfield staff that can coach.
Sit down with dad and learn to manage the clock and TOP and he's got a winning season.

For me if we let CDD go at the end of the season, then within 3-5 days we name his replacement. None of this we will start looking for a new coach soon.

Which is why he should be fired tomorrow.

Unless Hart can land a blue chip coach, I'd rather stick with Dooley. We can't afford to take chances. If we are going to buy out Dooley and his staff we need a proven coach who can produce...not a hot young upstart. If I were Hart, my list would be as follows: (1) John Gruden, (2) Chip Kelly, (3) Charlie Strong, (4) Gary Patterson, and (5) Chris Peterson. If I couldn't land one of those guys, I'd keep Dooley for another year. I might consider Bob Stoops, I'm not 100% sure about that though, so he didn't make the list.

I know everyone's decision is always "we must save the recruiting class" but it's not like we are in the top 10--we are 9 in the SEC according to Rivals it's not like we would lose anything...possible a few decommits but it's not anything a new coach couldn't pick up and build on from the previous.

If he keeps Dooley after this year's failures then Dooley becomes "his". He owns him and has attached his future to Dooley's.

The only way he can keep him is if truly believes that Dooley can win the SEC next year.

I just dont see how Hart can get rid of Dooley without a big name hire to replace him. This is what got us into this mess to start with .
