Logically there is no way Hart can retain Dooley at 7-5

We will be killed on the recruiting trail if Dooley is retained. Dooley will still be on the hot seat next year and nothing will be decided long term if Dooley is still here at the end of the year. There is just no way Hart can justify retaining Dooley no matter if he wins out including a bowl win.

I'm not sure logic is high on the priority list at UT

The scary part to me is this scenario:

Dooley is retained, fan apathy/misery/desparation continues to grow during the offseason, recruiting suffers, and then we face this brutal early schedule in 2013:

3rd/4th games of the season: @ Oregon, followed by @ FLA. Ouch. There is a HIGH probability that we get drilled in both of those games. If we're sitting at 2-2 after the first 4 games, with losses to 2 more top-25 teams, there seriously might be a meltdown of epic proportions.

When that happens (again, I hate predicting losses, but I'm just being realistic), Hart will be feeling big-time pressure from all sides.

IMO, this is the primary reason Dools is a GONER after this year. The fan base and the program simply can't handle another pathetic start to the season with the same coaching staff in place. They have yet to prove they can win a meaningful game - and until that happens, discontentment and unrest within Volnation will increase exponentially until a new direction is taken.

My advice: relieve the head coach of his duties at the end of the season and put out this dumpster fire before it burns the whole place down.

We need a change. But if were going to make a change it better be a Power hitter already lined up before we make it. I mean the AD better be lining up somebody special before we do it.

I think the fan apathy will likely be what gets him. UT should win out but knowing this team, it's no given. Everyone thought we'd beat UK last year and go to the Liberty Bowl.

If Dooley is retained, it's pretty much a given Dooley will have to have no less than a 9 or 10 win season next year and seriously contend for the East. And I just don't see that happening next year.

Why fire Dooley and pay him and his staff the buy-outs, then find that no great coach is interested in the job? So, we then hire the head coach from Marshall, Grambling, East Carolina or Southern Miss to take over the program. That would not be an improvement, yet we spent the money on the buy out.
If we can't find a better coach than Dooley that is interested in the program, then keep Dooley and save the buy out money....

Well, we better decide. Rumors are flying that Chizik has been released after today's beatdown.

Do you really think he has to justify retaining Dooley for another year? No.

Don't say he has to logically justify anything.. If he wants to keep him, then he can keep him. If he wants to drop him, he can drop him. He's the AD, NOT THE FAN BASE (thank god).

Now, that being said, can a wrong decision be jeopardizing his career? Yes, of course. He could easily be in trouble for the wrong call.

According to the impatience of our fan base (and half of them are just plain ignorant, but plenty have understandable and viable reasons), the wrong decision is to keep Dooley.

I personally do not like Gruden (or any other coaches I've caught rumors about), however, I do agree with the fact that Dooley hasn't gotten it done.. yet. He has 6 years on his contract.. he's been through 3. Another year will not harm anything, and will give a lot more insight to his capabilities. Just my opinion. I will admit, there is partial bias on my part due to Dooley's integrity as a person; what can I say? I think he's a great guy and I truly believe he wants it enough to actually get the job done.

But heck, if he gets canned and Gruden (or any of the other coaches) comes our way, I'm all for supporting Gruden until the next head coach after him!

It's a dud of a year... 7-5 is garbage with that schedule.. It will be a struggle to get to 7-5 at this point.. Swiss cheese defense, and a offense that tends to give up a big turnover right when they don't need too..

EXACTLY.. It's like a guy who leaves his 40 year old wife to be single and hit on younger chicks... then after he doesn't do well he has to start slumming it with whatever is left that isn't even as good as his ex..

Logically it's stupid to make an argument in such absolute terms
